Revisit Cyberpunk. It’s very good now.

I am leaning this way, myself. It is a game that should have been me 100% out of the gate (I mean, I was a Shadowrun addict on the SNES). I'm finishing up a full playthrough of RDR2 and I just bought the Witcher series on sale a couple months back. I may put Witcher on hold to do Cyberpunk.

I played it again a couple of months ago, but I didn't have some of the issues others did when it came out.

i dont think it so much age as much as your experience. You seem to have a lot of experience in open world games, and also action adventure games. Try taking a break from those for awhile and expand out to other genres. in my opinion the action/adventure and openworld games are the most cookie cutter of genres. if you've played one you've essentially played many of them.

throw some strategy, 3x, card games, rpgs, etc in there. see what you like. Between triple A games, smaller devs, and indie there is literally no end of good games to play. my personal back logs is at least 6-7 games deep right now.

Your car analogy is absolutely awful

Most people have one car, and it’s the second biggest purchase they make. It sitting unusable in the shop for two years would be catastrophic, as you would have to pay to replace it, and the whole time it’s depreciating in value.

CP2077 is a video game. It was perfectly playable at launch, even though it was flawed. It cost $60. And when people bought it and didn’t play it, they had plenty of other games to play, and the game didn’t lose value sitting there. If anything, it gained value as it improved.

If people want to sit around and impotently whine about the gaming industry, they are welcome to. I, for the most part, avoid those threads for a reason. I didn’t think that’s what this was. If he wants suggestions on games to play, happy to make those suggestions. CP2077 is a very solid game now and would absolutely be one of my suggestions if he doesn’t want to really branch out. But again, if it’s just impotent whining, you guys have fun

I've gotten too old for gaming too.

Games just don't interest me like they used to. Not as fun to play. I'm making myself play Witcher 3 right now. I play maybe 4-8 hours per week, mostly on the weekend.

The main game I play these days is Mario Kart 8 with my son. Game is fun as hell and infuriating. My brother and I had some great times playing the OG Mario Kart when we were kids.

We just age and our interests change.

I'm pretty sure this would be objectively false, especially in SNES era

The good games of that era though are generally better than the "good games" of today, I would agree.

Not saying it’s a great game by any means, but considering your username, have you tried out Dark Alliance?
Drizzt and the companions of Mithril Hall are the playable characters. Its a decently fun hack’n slash with RPG elements and either online or couch co-op.

Other than that- I never wanted to play any FromSoft game and nothing looked appealing. I finally got Sekiro on sale a few months back and just platinumed it on my 5th playthrough. I never thought I’d really enjoy it, but it has become one of my all-time favorites. The combat and traversal mechanics are totally different to the other FromSoft games.

You're not the only one feeling this way. It doesn't help when developers like UBISOFT and 343 have gone full woke and produce absolute crap games.

there was a ton of bad games on nes, snes, genesis, etc. id argue a higher percentage of low quality games released then than compared to modern consoles.

we tolerated a lot more shite as youngsters than we do now. This i because
a) less games were released so you spent more time with one game
b) unless you were wealthy, your income to consume games was limited

SNES games by year

Scroll down to North America. I have it set to start at 1991. Click through the years and tell me the percentage of them you've heard of, much less played, much less played and enjoyed

Yeah, there was a LOT of junk back in the 8 and 16 bit days. Much moreso than today.

Yep. Tons of what was basically shovelware. But the recollection bias makes complete sense. Unless it was historically bad like ET, no one remembers the dogshit games. They just remember that pretty much every game they owned, they loved. But that the games they owned, or even the games they played, make up a very, very small fragment of total games that were released. And with no internet to shite on the losers, they just faded into obscurity.

That you Druckman?

There are some great games in the past decade, but moreover hundreds from the 90’s and 00’s.

Part of why I got a Steam Deck - retro emulation station.

The other side of this coin, and what I think makes the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube gen in particular so fondly remembered is that we aren't so far removed from modern game design and yet you still had developers pumping out tons of games that, while not all perfect, gave you a lot of different (albeit in many cases flawed) experiences.
