I was a very vocal critic of the endings, but this satisfied me. A little more exposition on how things ended up. As for a prequel, they should have saved the galaxy-wide extinction plot for later , because honestly how can you top that? Hypothetically speaking, I would have been happier if say the first two Mass Effect games dealt with threats on a smaller scale, followed by the Reaper trilogy.

Or, he could have done that on his own at any point in the past preemptively negating the need for the cycles in the first place. But plots are so overrated these days.
It was my understanding that the crucible was what allowed this. He talks about the variables changing and how Shepard is there. It was the crucible that allowed the 3 options to become reality.
Perhaps we should be mad at the Protheans for making a shitty device.

Watched all the endings today.
Glad they included the extra bits, but overall I don't think the endings are that great.
I think the reapers are sucky villains with sucky motivations.

That's kind of weak, but good enough that I'll buy it. Mass Effect series actually has closure, character resolution, and a somewhat sensical ending. I am pacified.

I just simply don't care anymore.
They screwed the pooch with this game plain and simple.

except, because of the information you were able to gain on the reapers, the next cycle was able to actually destroy the reapers, instead of having to rely on some stupid kid
. . .so, like EXACTLY what the Protheans did with the beacons?

I think everything after the final convo with Anderson needs to be completely redone.
Until that happens, I don't care enough to download. Watched a couple on youtube. Same shite, with some added stuff.
Better, but still illogical and stupid.

Last night I loaded up ME3 and launched in to the game at the point where you enter the Cerberus base. I took down Kai Leng again, I’ll pull that Renegade trigger for Thane every freakin time. After I beat him, I just didn’t really have the energy to play through all the earth stuff again to get to the new ending. I ended up going on youtube and watching all of the EC DLC stuff.
Overall, I thought it was HUGE improvement over the original crap. I was pretty impressed with the way Bioware addressed all of the complaints that the public had. It really seemed like they actually listened. I like that the three endings are much more different, and a lot of loopholes are closed, questions answered. Even the Refuse ending has a good followup, although that blinking beacon would surely attract the attention of a Reaper wouldn’t it?
I was pretty happy with the Destroy and Control endings, each seemed to make a little more sense in their outcomes. Synthesis seems to be the choice EA thinks is the BEST choice, really contradicts a lot of the canon we’ve been following all along. Here’s how I think they should have handled it:
The Starbrat should have only given Shepard scenarios, Destroy of Control. Either destroy the Reapers, and in turn the Geth, or Control the Reapers, and in turn the Geth. Starbrat should describe the effects of each of these two choices, and then tell Shep to choose. The decision wheel should pop up with Three choices: Control, Destroy, Refuse. If you choose Refuse, telling the Starbrat “screw you and your two choices, I’ve always found a better way. I come from the Kobiashi Maru school of kickass and I have another idea. Instead of killing or controlling my new friends, the Geth, which actually continues the cycle of tech vs organics, I have another idea. I’ll sacrifice myself, and bond with the tech, creating the next step in evolution, tech/organic life.
Making the Synthesis choice Shepard’s idea, and a way of BREAKING the cycle, makes it much easier to stomach Synthesis. And making you feel like you weren’t cattle herded in to all of the choices.
And the epilogue stuff was a little better. BUT my skin CRAWLS when the kid says “the Shepard”. GRRRRR for some reason that pisses me off to no end.

you say that like bioware is capable of thinking rationally.
