The Mafia Twitter account recently came back to life, prompting speculation that the mobster series might be returning. Now, 2K Games has officially announced a new project called Mafia Trilogy for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

The teaser trailer shows footage from the first three games in the series, spanning Mafia, Mafia II, and Mafia III. The trailer promises a full reveal on May 19, so fans will have to wait a little bit longer to find out all the specifics about the Mafia Trilogy like its release date, platforms, and price. Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest.

You're in for a treat. I haven't played the third one, only the first two. Can't wait to replay them.

Got the third one free as one of the PS Plus games years back but never got around to it. I know each version doesn't tie into the next, but I may just play them in succession now.

Seems a little odd they'd only remake the first one and not both of the previous gen games, but I guess you can get away with just remastering the second since it was on the PS3 and 360

Lol, that's true. Would be amazing to see 2 in this engine.

I wonder what they're going to do with 3 since it did come out this gen? What upgrades can be done?

That’s a great choice for a remake.

I just finished the third one as a quarantine play through. It was pretty good for a free game. There were some glitches like mission markers not spawning on the map but they could be fixed by restarting the game. In all, totally worth it and very fun to play as a free game.

2K gives a disclaimer at the beginning of the game about its racism. The game is set in a town that is supposed to be New Orleans in the late 1960s. They weren’t lying and the racism is extreme and over the top. I wasn’t alive during that time so I don’t know how realistic it is but damn it was crazy hearing some of the things the NPCs or radio would say in game.

First one is fricking AMAZING.

ETA:

"Mr. Angelo?"
"Ugh, yes..."
"Mr. Salieri sends his regards."

Only played 2 but enjoyed. Did you find the missions in three really repetitive? That was the main complaint I heard

The missions were repetitive in that there was the same pattern or objectives to complete to take over a territory. You had to scout rackets, do damage to them, recruit or kill 2 capos, then recruit or kill the underboss for each area. I thought it was fun though.

Here's the official word on the trilogy:

LINK
quote:

The first Mafia has been completely remade from the ground-up. The complete remake includes a new game engine, updated script, new cutscenes, added gameplay sequences, and more. However, Mafia 1 won’t be available to play until August 28, 2020.

quote:

Meanwhile, Mafia 2: Definitive Edition is available today as part of the trilogy and received an Ultra HD remaster that supports 4K visuals.

quote:

Both Mafia 2 and Mafia 3: Definitive Edition is available today and includes all their post-launch DLC.

The Trilogy is only $60 also which is an awesome deal to me. Mafia II is $30 by itself

I think Mafia 2 may only be 1080p; The store listings don't say anything about higher resolutions.

*I'm now seeing analysis saying 3200x1800 Xbox One X and 2560x1440 for PS4 Pro.

Yep, it's a good deal. Physical version comes with all 3 in a pack and it's coming out the same day as Mafia Remake, but sounds like the US won't be getting it. Only Europe and Asia will be getting physical. Gonna have to import.

A physical edition will also be released in full on August 28, but only planned for select EMEA region territories.

Mafia I definitive has a steam page up. If you owned Mafia II and III already on Steam, you were automatically upgraded to the definitive editions.

Too bad that I have 2 on the PS3 and 3 (which I haven't finished) on Xbox one

There is virtually no changes to Mafia III. Mafia II has some changes, but seems really negligible. They both are not getting the Mafia I treatment.
