Sorry guys. I'm not really much of a gamer. My 9 year old plays Splatoon 2 on his switch. We bought the download last Christmas. What will be changing for him?

In order for him to play online, he'll need a Nintendo Online Subscription which is $20/year for online multiplayer.

Exactly. I hadn't played PC games in a year and half, recently got a laptop, installed steam with the games, was right where I left off.

Thanks.

$20 per year isn't that big of a deal. Hope they don't jack it up more in a few years.

Because console peasants, specifically Nintendo fanboys, don't know any better.

It's worth noting that there's a family sub for $35/year and up to 8 NintendoIDs can be linked with this.

Most of the time I've gone so long without playing a game that I'm gonna start a new game anyway.

That said, I did buy a PS4 Pro in the middle of playing Dragon Quest XI, so being able to download my latest save off the internet and transfer to my new console was nice.

Can't open the link (IGN), but Nintendo commented on losing cloud saves after letting your sub lapse:

Nintendo confirmed that even if your Online subscription lapses, you still have a bit of time to recover cloud saves.

Nope. I don't uninstall games until I'm done beating them and will never play them again. Even if I do, typically I just want to start from the beginning again.

Be specific, it is generous:

quote:

"If a Nintendo Switch Online membership expires, users won’t be able to access their Save Data Cloud backups. However, Nintendo will allow users who resubscribe within 180 days to access their previous Save Data Cloud backups," the Nintendo spokesperson said.

I told you I couldn't open up the link.

ETA That's sounds like it's on par with PSN, but seriously Nintendo, you need to do a better job with messaging.

Ah I thought it was in the title too. The article title.

To be fair though the "Saved Backups for some and not all games" is weirdness.

Really don't get what nintendo is paranoid about on this. Cheating happens all the time, it's an unending war, and this hasn't stopped every other platform from doing it.

Still using friend codes, so maybe no surprising.

Meh, I have swapped machines around, and have cleared out things to save some space. Especially in age of SSDs where I have the same flexibility to install everything I own.

That may be a legit reason, but I'm laughing because it honestly sounds like a justification for something Nintendo won't let him do

I have always been, until recently without a good PC, a PC masterrace player. And I just always had externals to copy save files on to. It was just too easy without worrying about log ins. I never ran into any issues. And always run an external with backups. Never lost data, never used cloud saves. I used to just straight copy my old Steam folder from computer to computer and restore

And I should add, that I've put stuff in Steam's cloud before....but never had to restore it once. Again

I never buy multiple consoles of the same gen. And since I had all Nintendos, only a PS2 and only an X1, I've never had to pull stuff in from a previous console. And I only buy computers when I am trashing an old one. Maybe that's why? I try to keep to as few devices at one time as possible.

I believe you. I've just heard too many nintendo apologists to not kind of go there

That's fair.

I've wondered if the way I game just matches Nintendo's approach to a T and that's why I never have an issue.

Take VC as another one. I get that it's a big deal, but I've only extensively used VC a handful of times in my gaming experiences: Highly Competitive FPS that I was good at - Enemy Territory and TF, and MMO's CoH, Guild Wars, etc. I never used console VC and once I tried LoL random team VC for a week, I pretty much gave up on all VC as a whole because I don't really clan it anymore like my ET days. So it's just never a big deal anymore and I play Splatoon (and now Paladins) a lot and just never worry.
