The last fight:

I’ve been stuck for hours and had to take a break. Give me no mercy has been brutal on this fight. The last phase has been a bitch.

Yeah I meant Give Me No Mercy. I’ve stayed at that level the whole game and can’t even imagine give me God of War.

I did fight two Berserkers earlier and almost beat their asses. I might go back and fight a few to warm up again for this last fight. Those berserkers are no joke.

I think I beat the first 3 berserkers and the 4th one I found just wrecked me no matter what I did. I'm sure there was a trick to it just like the first 3 but I was almost done with the game and just didn't have the same level of interest I had after the last game to finish all of the side content.

Plat'd last week and kicked back into 2018 to revisit that story and plat. Ragnarok's story was still very good in my opinion, but Ragnarok could've been a little more robust.

frick Gna, but I enjoyed the video of the guy whipping her arse in 26 seconds on GMGOW

Finished last night. Really liked it. Not as strong as GoW '18 but still a good game.

Don't get the complaints about the last Asgard being short. We had been there twice before and this last time was in the midst of a war. I don't think it would have served anything to spend more time on that section than they did.

And Sindri....I feel you, bro

The berserkers that gave me the most trouble was the 2v1 and 3v1 fights. After many tries, i eventually got them down. Only one fight i had enough of, which led me to lowering difficulty, was the damn Maven. I think I entered that room too early in the game and was underpowered and i ended up trapped. I think my play improved and could have beaten her now but and im disappointed i ended up lowering the difficulty.

Just read a few articles about the hints in the game that indicated the big late game twist, and I change my mind, this game is pretty brilliant

IGN legit put it in the title of a video within 2 weeks of the game releasing. I was pissed bc I use subtitles and never noticed until the video popped up.

I'd hardly call it a twist, it meant literally nothing in the grand scheme and only served to kill off a well-liked side character (in extremely lazy fashion) so that you would hate Odin. A "twist" just for the sake of having one.

You spend 1/3 of the game tracking down ______, expect a satisfying end to his arc, and then get that nonsensical reveal with zero payoffl. None of the knowledge Odin gains from the ruse is used to outsmart you or plan 3 steps ahead or do anything of note.

It was a cool idea with bad execution, like a lot of the game's narrative

Well they knew he had heard every plan they had come up with so none of it was useful. He only revealed himself when Brok called him out and he had the opportunity to acquire the mask.

Plus the entire game all he did was cast doubt on everything they came up with, attempting to slow them down while he did his work with Atreus. I was trying to figure out if Odin was just able to be in 2 places at once but it made sense that he was travelling back and forth through the broom closet where no one would have checked. The Odin reveal was a huge turning point for Atreus, helped him finally see that Odin was not to be trusted at all even with everyone telling him that the entire game, and was a HUGE turning point with Sindri all the way to the end that I really enjoyed, and I appreciated that they didn't give him an artificial "coming around" moment that I think most were expecting.

I think it worked, I enjoyed it a lot. Not sure what else you were expecting with it but it was an affective story to me, and in my effort to avoid any more spoilers in case people here haven't finished it yet, going off after the credits and continuing to do quests with the current state of the party certainly felt somber to me with all that had happened.

SPOILERS

I wanted there to be some grand betrayal and epic reveal of how he had been playing chess and everyone else was playing checkers, using the subterfuge to gravely derail our plans like all Mimir's stories depicted him doing to others. I mean he didnt even get the damn mask out of it

A good twist will make you rethink everything up to it and have you experience the story in a different way on subsequent runs. With this, it honestly feels like they thought of it after they had written the rest of the story and then just wedged it in to have it included. The Odin in Ragnarok is straight up not the character that Freya and Mimir warned us about in 2018. We honestly don't get to experience him doing anything really bad up until the betrayal, it just feels hamfisted and a way to make us say "oh, he's really done it now, we have to kill him."

I'm with you on this, I'm glad they didn't give in. More impactful that way. The game world feels permanently altered with its endgame state

SPOILERS

The mask was his sole obsession, and his whole purpose with the ruse was to a) obviously keep an ear on the enemy, and b) encourage Atreus amidst all the warnings of not trusting Odin to where he would feel that he would need to take things into his own hands (Kratos reads Tyr the riot act for "encouraging his foolishness"), knowing that he couldn't complete the mask without the help of Atreus. Once he learned the the prophecy he had been working off of was false, he had to readjust knowing he was in the crosshairs.

Also, I rewatched the seen where they learn the prophecy Groa gave Odin was false, Tyr pushes past Atreus like he isn't even there and whispers "she lied" and stares at the prophecy for a full minute. Loved it. Was definitely an "oh frick" moment for Odin

ETA I'm running around doing mop up with Freya and Mimir, and it's kind of sad any time you go back to the house or visit the blackmith stations. I think that's a testament of how well those characters were fleshed out.

I like how there is no mythological basis regarding lokis mask.

The writers of GoW:R presented a Jim Carrey movie plot as though it was actual Norse myth. My head canon is that it when the rift closes, the mask gets transported to 1994.

It was a decent game, but it suffers from the same problem that doom eternal did. A sequel following a lean focused “breath of fresh air” title with a bunch of bloat. Mechanically it was fine, but the plot suffered.

It was, but I was referring to him just appearing with the hammer at the end. Everyone attempting to take the high road and he's "frick that"

That part, too. The look on his face as he did it just brought it all to a good bittersweet close.
