how hard is it to jump in these games? haven't played one of these since yellow. having so many pokemon kinda turned me off to the series. are you totally screwed if you don't know everything about each or can you figure it out without screwing yourself over?
Its not too difficult. They have a lot of the older pokemon in the game. Only difficult thing is not knowing what type a pokemon is when a trainer is about to send it in.

I jumped in and bought it after playing yellow and red version. It has been difficult correlating 500 different new names to their types but it has been very fun along the way.

I know it has been asked already in this thread, but is there any advantage, aside from a slightly larger, but blurrier, screen of getting a 3ds xl vs a 2ds?
I mean, is there any real 3d junk in the game that is worth the $70 extra?
If I was going to buy a system just for the pokemon game, that is.
BTW, glad to see I am not the only grown-arse-man that wants to play some Pokemon

I almost bought the 2DS because I wanted to save money. The 3D is cool, but this game is not one I would base on my decision to buy a 3DS/2DS. However, I also got Zelda OoT and the 3D is sweet! So it depends on what you plan to purchase.

Every iteration of the Gameboy system, save the OG gameboy, I have owned has solely been a Pokemon machine. I might've bought a game here or there, or bought a flash cart to load NES emulator/roms on, but primarily play time has been 99% Pokemon, and I wouldn't expect that to change.
So should I save the $70 and go 2DS? or is the 3d in this game worth the extra $70?

If that is the case, I would say save the 70 dollars.

Everything in read is that the 3DS isn't worth it

About to go face the Elite 4. Here's my team right now:
Greninja- Water/Dark: Lvl 74
Venasaur- Grass/Poison: Lvl 72
Kadabra- Psychic: Lvl 70
Tyrantrum- Rock/Dragon: Lvl 70
Talonflame- Flying/Fire: Lvl 73
Lucario- Fighting/Steel: Lvl 71
Think I've got a well balanced team going in, but it kills me I can't evolve that Kadabra into an Alakazam. No way I can trade that bad boy at this point and expect for it to be traded back. I would offer to trade it for a Haunter, and then back again, but Haunters are everywhere in this game, while an Abra is hard as frick to find (think I read its the rarest Pokemon on the route I found it on and can only be caught there), hard as frick to evolve, and it and its evolution are powerful as frick to where there's no chance in hell I'd see the thing again.

I'll trade your Alakazam back if you let me make a sweet little baby Abra with him and my slutty Ditto.

I'll trade you my Kadabra for your Kadabra.

So I read these versions, though awesome, are pretty easy and not difficult at all.. Any truth to that?

Is abra really that rare? I ran into like 3 when I was training there for maybe 10 minutes or so

Difficulty comes in battling others. EXP Share does make it pretty easy though because you will almost always have a solid group of pokemon instead of just relying on your starter.

EXP Share is retardedly OP this gen. I've had to turn it off multiple times because I'd end up overleveling pokes and never actually using them

I only lost a Sky Battle or two, but that's it. It's pretty easy. The Champion of the Elite 4 is the only one who remotely gave me a problem.
