If anything I think Sony is losing out in the big picture on their exclusives, Last of us and Horizon Zero Dawn would have made them a ton of money XBOX and PC. I would guess most people wouldn't shell out the money for a PS just to play a couple of games.

see the reason I'm thinking I'll get an X - is because it's time for me to upgrade my computer again... I can shell out $1,000 and get what I would want on the PC, or I can spend $500 and get the X and play these games in 4k
I might be going back to Xbox by the end of 2018 because of this

This kind of stuff makes me want to give up PC gaming. I can't keep spending $500 every two or three years on PC upgrades or new consoles.
Only thing I really can't play on console are certain MMOs and Total War.

Would you? Then why has the ps4 sold up to 60.5 million to date? Do you really think it isn't because of their exclusives?
They are over double Microsoft at this point.
(Also Sony's Playstation division is at all time profit margins I am pretty sure.)

The more consoles they have sold the more PS4 plus subs they have.
The more consoles they have sold the more games are bought for their console. (They do make money on that too)
The more consoles they sold the more accessories they sell.
You can go on and on.
The more consoles sony has sold, the more profit they make.

The only way your statement is true is if the cost to put it out on PC and XBOX exceeds the money they would make.
EXCEPT if it affected console sales, but I was under the impression that the margins for the consoles are pretty tight .
