I have a computer question

I got a PC tower from work. They were giving them away. I think they removed the hard drive because the space on it is limited. I'm about as dumb as they come with computers. Can I just purchase an external hard drive to store movies and pics on?
The computer works and everything. It just has limited free space. I fully expect to get made fun of for this.

I will.
But can you answer my question?

I could. But seeing I would have to mention the almighty pc, it would just make you rage. Hard.

If the USB drives work, yes, you can

Here's my second question. The computer works, but it sometimes will be slow. Like now, when I'm trying download a large file...it will sort of take a while between switching from a Chrome window to the torrent program and so forth.
How can that be fixed? This thing was wiped clean before they gave the towers away and all. I imagine it's pretty bare.

If they had removed the hard drive, you wouldn't downloading anything right now. You wouldn't be using Windows. It's probably just a really old PC with a low capacity hard drive. Hence they gave them away.
As far as fixing the slowness/lag, I would need to know the full specs of the computer, and I don't think you'll be able to provide them.
Is there at least a brand/model number on it?

Id like to help, but that's out of my computer knowledge. That may be a RAM issue or something that you may have to purchase more of to improve

Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHz, 2.99GHz, 1.00GB of RAM
That's from system properties. It's a Dell Model DHM, Serial 5Q7JK61

Yeah I know. Like I said I don't really know what I have here because I haven't used this thing other than internetting until now.

A little bit faster than my first build ever. 10-year-old technology. Single core, socket 478, DDR1, probably IDE interface drives. Best you could do is add more RAM, but the lag might be simply because the hard drive has aged. I wouldn't bother upgrading it.

That's 2005 era technology, sounds very similar to a build I had in 2005-2006 at my first job. I remember upgrading to VS 2005 and thinking I needed more RAM. It could use an upgrade to 2GB of RAM, if you could find some cheaply.

Your company give the field hands some old office computers?
Oh that is nice, we just give ours turkeys for Thanksgiving. You should see how happy they are for a turkey.

So it appears that maybe not with trying to upgrade it due to age? That's cool. I like to get new stuff anyway.
