Just wondering. For me, it's when I notice problems or my gaming starts to suffer.

How many of you upgrade yearly just because?

I completed my first build in July of 2013 and I just upgraded (everything minus the case) two weeks ago.

So around 4 years for me.

Every year.

Whenever it hinders the game I am playing, really want something, or have a part failure.

Was planning on just upgrading to the 1080ti before my motherboard and power supply failure mandated a major replacement of most everything.

When I get the itch, or whenever there exists a reasonably priced GPU that performs equal to or better than my dual gpu setup.

I just realized not too long ago that I built my pc 5 years ago this year. Can't believe it's been that long. I noticed drops in performance last year and upgraded to a higher 900 series GPU fairly cheap and new monitor. The two games I play, League and WoW, aren't that graphic intensive and play on ultra with high frames.

I don't see myself completely upgrading for a few more years, but I can see a complete upgrade in 4-5 years for more avid gamers who play a lot more games, especially graphic intensive ones.

Built my last one seven years ago. Had to replace my 580 last year with a 970 last February, but it still runs fairly well.

A new build about every 6-7 years (only done two). A new part every 2/3.

I just rebuilt after 7 and kind of fell out of gaming after college. It still played about everything at 1080. Now I'm gaming in the 4k realm with 3300 mb/s M2 SSD. I base upgrades on technology; 2K and 4K was calling and it was about time to drop $2K on a new system.

I built my initial rig back in 2011. Sandy Bridge, i7-2600k (OC 4.5GHz), 8 GB DDR3, GTX 770, 20" monitor @ 1680x1050.

That pretty much handled everything I threw at it. I finally upgraded a couple pieces last year. I upgraded to 16GB DDR3, GTX 980ti, and a 27" Gsync monitor @ 2560x1440. I thought Star Citizen would be coming out by 2017 so I pulled the trigger...

I had considered upgrading everything, but since I am gaming at 1440p there was no reason as my CPU/mobo could handle that just fine.

When I go to 4K resolution then I'll need to upgrade everything. Though 1440p (2K) resolution is already pretty nice, plus gsync and it was a huge upgrade to what I had before. The next thing to make me upgrade will probably be HDR.

I upgrade about every 2 to 3 years but I've been upgrading faster than that because the outlets suck at my apartment and I've been fried a couple of times.
