so after reading through this thread, would it be fair to say it is worth revisiting?

In terms of just gameplay, the shooting and all, it's really good. In terms of the rest of it around the edges, couldn't say if you would like it or not.

The in-game audio is also pretty stellar.

For sure, we'll have a group on most of the weekend. Got a few friends back into it lately as well everyone is really enjoying it.
That battlefield fine wine, give us a year or two then we'll make it pretty good.

The 4.2 patch has just dropped which includes the re-worked Discarded map. They're running a Discarded 24/7 mode on Conquest along with the regular playlist.
Also, "Uniform Soldier Aiming", which is BF2042's version of aim assist is on by default in this patch. For some reason, it's also on for PC players. I had better results turning it off with mouse and keyboard.
I played for a bit and so far populations are up. One round played on Spearhead was pretty damn solid.

The fact that Steam still has the base game at $60 tells me it must still have a high active player base.

It's so bizarre to me. Battlefield and CoD are two of the biggest franchises in gaming history and have a shite zillion people working on them. The FPS is also probably the most milquetoast, generic gaming genre. Yet every single year both teams can barely crap out anything resembling a component product.
