you have Elden Ring, where not only do players not have a shared experience

The world is beautiful, and I get why people love it, but it’s just not the experience I want out of a From game. I want a heavily, lovingly (if sadistically) choreographed gaming experience, not a choose your own adventure that you can inadvertently trivialize without meaning to.
I totally get where you are coming from but these were the reasons I enjoyed Elden Ring. Loved that I would talk to friends that had totally different experiences. I loved that you could play however you wanted.
I do enjoy all the other Fromsoft games but I still haven't played Dark Souls 2 or 3. I have to take breaks from that formula (another reason I liked Elden ring was that it was a change from their regular formula...similiar to my enjoyment of Sekiro) so I'm sure I'll be itching for it soon and want to play Dark Souls 2.

In a vacuum, many of the bosses in Elden Ring are vastly, vastly more complex and difficult than the bosses in Dark Souls. The latter bosses have less health, fewer unique moves, and attack much slower.
My only complaint with the bosses in ER is how aggressive they are and how often they jump across the arena. Moving around looking for openings is a lot more fun when there are actual openings to look for
That damn wolf in the academy was the worst at this. It would jump in, swing a sword, then jump across the damn map and throw magic at me, then immediately start running charging up another run In.

And I completely get that. I enjoy plenty of other games that do that. I’m not some hardcore From purist. It’s just that From is one of the only studios making what they (historically) make, so when they make a game that’s more similar to other offers, it feels like a watering down. But that’s from the perspective of someone who enjoys From’s traditional offerings. For someone who doesn’t, or who just enjoys other things far more, having a beautiful Souls-like with modern open world RPG like elements is what they always hoped and dreamed about. Most people’s perspective on it is likely highly predicated on where they were standing to begin with.

The difficulty steps up once you go to the mountains. You can always grind and try to level up.

Apparently sneaking up behind a boss and casting poison mist until they die works on most of the world bosses. Easy way to get some runes

KF3, released as 2 in the US, could be a pain though because there were instant death traps.

Demon Souls the world itself was extremely hard. The boss fights were unfortunately mostly "gimmick" fights and yes thus very easy. Given it was the "first" souls game I'm sure people struggled just on inexperience alone.
This is spot on. Every level, until you reach the one shortcut unlock, you restart from the beginning every single time. Some areas more than others this was absolutely maddening

Funnily enough, Demon's Souls has the hardest NG+ lol

yeah...getting platinum was a huge bitch in this game. For Elden Ring, you can run through and finish the NG+ and ++ in 5-6 hours to get platinum (if you need to)

Dont mean to bump an old thread but this happened to me last night and i thought it was funny. Ive been stuck on the godskin duo fight for about a week. I will die 3-4 times, run off to get a level or 2, then come back and die 3-4 more times. Was getting frustrated.
So last night, was playing while listening to the LSU game and decided to try out the multiplayer and see if i could summon another player for help. So i summon him in, we run to the boss room, and this guy proceeds to put them to sleep in the 1st few seconds and then has killed them both within 20 seconds of entering the room. He then waves to me while they are respawning and then he sleeps them both again, does this spell that i have not seen before, and then they are dead. Whole fight lasted less than a minute

Holy frick; I had completely forgotten about those games. Damn, that was a hell of a long time ago. Now I gotta hit up youtube and get a good look at it after all this time.

I think it's just all about the build. I just finished watching the Babe1Babe2 Elden Ring stream series on Youtube where the guy had his 70 yr old dad play through the game. He was horrible in the mechanics of the game but over time had built up a 120 level strength tank character and he ended up beating Malenia in 30 or so attempts. he did use a level 7 mimic tear but honestly I think he could have done it without eventually.
The guy used the rusted anchor for pretty much the entire run through the game. He deviated at times to try different weapons, including blasphemous blade, but always reverted back to the anchor. Really hilarious series to follow over the past few months.
bumping this because the Babe1Babe2 Youtube channel is now having the 70 yr old dad play Sekiro. Painful to watch at times as he bumbles along but it's quite impressive how he's starting to get the deflect down. He just beat the general that leads in to the path down to the first serpent encounter in the latest episode.
