Not only for towns lacking a Best Buy, but also a Hot Topic for the overpriced toys, statues, Pop Funkos, etc lol.

The all digital world is going to be anti-consumer as hell.

The reality of not actually having any real ownership of your purchases ever takes so much power away from the consumers.

but what I am talking about is the inevitable all digital future where a game gets delisted from online store fronts when the publisher loses the rights to the IP or when they no longer want to pay license fee for some type of vehicle, music, etc.

Happens frequently. I have a few games on Steam in my library that have been delisted. Community hub is still up, but no store page. Games like TMNT, Crysostasis, etc. I remember when Vice City was pulled for music, then relisted with songs missing.

I hate it for the employees losing their jobs, but look forward to GameStop dying. They were just never consumer friendly and I probably only purchased 5 games total in my life from there because of it.

The all digital age is coming and no reason not to embrace it. More good things will come from it, than the random pain point.

I mean, I know GameStop is the new thing to hate on, but GameStop is such a big part of my life as I grew up. EB Games, Babages, etc. they were all great.

The model these stores used has slowly died, yes, Youtube has shown us that the working conditions at these stores have not always been the best... but they were a part of our lives for so long. It's very unfortunate that this model is circling the toilet - but at the same time, I know GameStop was one of the worst places to work for in college (and only the biggest assholes got promoted)... so it's kinda bitter sweet

I can attest to this. It's still the go-to for anything gaming related in my town.

Also, put me in the club that just can't bring myself to hate on Gamestop considering I played them out of way more money than they played me. Their "keep the receipt and return it for a full refund within 30 days on used games" policy allowed me to play and beat a hell of a lot more games than I would have normally been able to afford as a kid growing up. I abused the frick out of that system. Only ever bought pre-owned and would just stick the receipt in the game case then take the month to beat/get my fill of the game then take it back for a full refund.

We're about to be beyond the brink of massive storage capabilities and massive bandwidth capabilities that will render the need for any brick and mortar gaming store obsolete.

You don't technically own the game when you buy a disc either. You are buying a license to use that media and that license can be revoked.

Literally the only way this works is if you are playing an online only game that requires validation of some kind of account.

Surprised theyve lasted this long. Sad to see them go because they were apart of my growing up but most people just purchase digital copies now a days.

I still dig GameStop. Just wait for the price drops and buy used.

Got division 2 a few weeks ago for $17.99 during one of their sales.

Can't do digital. You download more than one a month and Cox gets your arse.

I have been saving and downloading when I'm ready to play the PlayStation free games. If it's a game I already have, I trade that game in and just use the digital version. I did it with destiny 2, Black ops 3, and mad Max.

GameStop closest to me closed within the past few days, drove through the strip mall they were in and it was gone, signage down and completely empty. No announcement beforehand and no signs on the window or anything.

There are still like 3-4 more GameStops in easy driving distance though (for now) which is a big part of their problem anyway, just way too many damn stores.
