For those that played MGS1 at time of release, how hyped were you during the intro of 2?

I imagine there were lots of jaws on the floor. the graphical jump is just retarded. I'm fixing to replay the whole series solely because I watched 2's opening and got so hyped lmao

It was cool seeing Snake again but I think everyone knew MGS2 would focus on a new character before the game came out. I was much more hyped by the ending actually.

For me, it was the MGS2 debut at E3 2000.

No we didn't. Which was unfortunate...

I bought Zone of Enders just to play the opening demo of 2. I think I put in almost as much time on that tanker scene demo as I did the full game. But yea that intro where he jumps on tanker is one of my favorites.

I dont remember that at all. I remember it being a big surprise and disappointment to a lot of fans (including myself) when Snake took a back seat to Raiden. In fact Konami kept Raiden's starring role in Metal Gear Solid 2 secret until the game's North American release, going so far as to replace Raiden with Snake in teaser trailers and other preview materials. Although Raiden appeared in several preview trailers in his scuba gear, his presence was not emphasized. Raiden's appearance in the game was announced to the Japanese press on the day of the game's release in North America

I swear I remember seeing Raiden in some magazine before it came out.

Konami / Kojima was very deliberate in how the game was marketed to not reveal Raiden was the main character. They even showed gameplay footage of Snake in scenes that the player would only ever get to control Raiden in. Now, maybe there were magazines that showed the character, but no one knew you'd be playing as him for 3/4 of the game.

Same, but laughing at the cockpit in Zone of Enders was almost as fun.

not at all. new characters were teased. but Raiden being the main dude was a shock.

that said, it never bothered me. i was too busy having a blast to be worried about it.

when the col AI starts going all glitchy was one of the freakiest gaming moments ive ever played.

I remember watching the tech demo/reveal on a shitty internet connection in 2000. Might have been TGS. It was all in Japanese, but it was amazing. I don't think there's been a bigger leap in graphics from one gen to the next.

I played the Hell out of the demo disk. The backlash after the game came out was pretty funny.

Yeah, I remember waiting like 10 hours to download a 10 MB movie of the E3 2000 reveal. Not even sure if it was 56K.

Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly but I am pretty sure I really enjoyed Zone of Enders.

SNES to PSX?

The PS2 really wasn't that impressive to me graphically speaking, but I think that's mainly because I owned a Dreamcast before I ever got a PS2.
