PS5 Beta Introduces Discord Voice Chat, VRR support for 1440p, and more
New Social Features
- Join a Discord Voice Chat on Your PS5 Console. You can now join Discord voice chats on your PS5 console and easily chat with friends on most other gaming platforms. To start, link your Discord and PlayStation Network accounts from your PS5 console following these steps*. Then, use the Discord app on your mobile device or computer to get a Discord voice chat going on your PS5 console (make sure your Discord app is updated to the latest version). You can also let your Discord friends see when you’re online and what you’re playing.
- Note: if you’ve linked your PlayStation Network and Discord accounts in the past to display what game you’re playing, you’ll need to link your accounts again on your PS5 console to grant the new permissions needed for Discord voice chat.

You a Tim fan? I used to like him more when he played CS. I don't play all the new games he plays, so not as fun to watch.
Discord is good. Anyone remember ventrillo (called it vent)? Used that back in the day. It was the popular one. Something will replace Discord too. The way the computer world works.

Team Speak was after Vent, right? I was on TS for all of my FFXIV days.

Yeah, think so. Vent was around mid 2000s. We used it when I played in CAL-Main in CS.

I do not, and never will, get the obsession with watching other people play games..nothing against you guys, my son watches and wants to stream, but I just don't get it

I mean people watch fishing and golf. i like sports, but id rather watch video games than some dudes fish or golf.

Talking to your friends across platforms. I communicate with friends primarily on PC using TS or Discord. I am less likely to play my PS5 because it would mean that I stop talking to my friends.

Cross platform games is the reason. Wish they had it on ps4, a couple of the guys that play destiny with us are on ps4 and we’d much rather discord vs in-game chat

Tested with a buddy. It still sounds like shite apparently.
PC folks sound flawless
PS5 folks sound robotic
I tested it from my PS5 with two different headset mics and the mic on the controller. The feedback I got was that all 3 sounded robotic.

I guess I never understood discord.
I play destiny and it’s cross platform and I can still talk to the other people. It’s quite easy with the mic being in the controller.

Ahh, I guess I wouldn’t notice it being ducky since I’m on ps5. I was like, I hear people clearly. I guess they might not hear me so well.

ever wanted to just be in a voice party "with the boys" and not have to listen to the other children in the lobby with you?
discord will allow that when your friends are on multiplatform.
PC players can be snobs as well when it comes to chat audio. in-game chat audio, like CoD, is usually cheaply supported and can sound fuzzy/robotic compared to Discord.
To put it into perspective, Discord (on PC), can almost sound like the person is in the room with you. That's how clear it is.
In-game chat can sound like a landline telephone.
It also depends on the mic in your headset.

It's not only audio quality, but it's the vast array of options like being able to change audio per user to your liking, endless keybinds, muting and deafening, private lobbies with chat, etc

Deafen and mute are amazing when in gulag trying to not hear someone bitching how they died when you are trying to win.
