My interest was piqued by the wait mode, but I found it to be kind of clunky initially so I figured I'd play in active for a few more hours until I felt more comfortable.

The wait mode can seem a little off-putting at first. Especially if you played the demos and you're used to the active combat. It took me a couple hours to figure out how I wanted to use it.
The main thing to realize about the wait system is that the main difference is that the action freezes when you don't press anything. As long as you're moving and attacking, it's no different than the active system. It just provides an opportunity to plan attacks and implement more strategy.
I'd recommend taking a look at the Wait mode Ascension tree. It has some interesting nodes on there such as increasing damage from attacks that enemies are weak against (after they have been scanned).
I'd assume that once you become more familiar with the combat and enemy weaknesses, you will likely use active combat more often.

THEres nothing more fricking obnoxious than buying a game, coming home and realizing you have a little window to play...if only there wasn't a 10 gig patch for a game that is 1 day old

11 hours and level 12 at the end of chapter 1.
Yeah, I'm in for a long one.

It's a Final Fantasy gear toward girls gamers mostly with the team consisting only of four dudes with different looks. Square is casting a wide net.
Pretty much in this day and age, it's a good jump on point for new fans who are girl gamers.
Think it might be the first FF that I will be skipping.

Yeah, the game which has a skin and bones mechanic with DD tits and thong showing is geared towards girls.

Within 2 minutes there was a NPC wearing daisy dukes and a tank with an unbuttoned collar showing off her huge rack

I'm through chapter 1. No side quests yet. I wanted to get the story going.
I haven't formed an opinion yet but it's a trend in the right direction from FF 13 so that's positive
