Here's a fun fact.

Both men that voiced the English version of Sephiroth both played Superman. (George Newbern, Tyler Hoeclen)

From IGN

A few parts can only be described as "Some Kingdom Hearts BS."

Can't say I didn't see this coming.

Maybe for those who don’t know all the games? I donno. I have only played 7.

Or will make more sense when the full game is out?

I donno.

Now admittedly I'm still pretty early in the original, but having played a lot JRPG's and a fair bit of KH, this seems kind of par for the course to me. There's alway a certain level of "WTF is going on" in JRPG games. To me its always been kind of a tax you gotta pay if you want to enjoy the genre . As long as the combat system is fun and engaging I'm good.

Yeah I felt that way a bit with my first play through. All the other games in the 7 series...much like KH had vital and good lore and story/explaination.

A lot of the issue with KH is pacing and the obvious convoluted story.

I just hope the remake give us all that juicy FF7 world building and lore at a pace that is driving and comprehensive.

I agree they all do have levels of WTF. But Kingdom Hearts is another level of WTF.

Edit: to be more clear I think Nomura is cancer when he touches a story.

Without getting deep into spoilers reviews are calling the ending nuts, not sure what to think about that, didn't go into it but a general review

Laymen Gaming on YouTube said a lot of hardcore fans will probably hate the ending so make of that what you will (they seemed to really enjoy the game though). Gamespot gave the game a perfect 10 and IGN an 8. Sitting at 87 on metacritic.

Seems the biggest complaint is some of the side quests are uninspired and can bog down the pacing later in the game.

Fwiw hard core fans will likely hate most of the game, just like star trek fans IMO

No Doubt. And that is what has always worried me. Nomura always has to get weird.

quote:

Kotaku: Days after finishing the game, I’m still trying to grapple with the consequences of Final Fantasy VII Remake’s ending, which will be heatedly debated in the weeks and months to come. It’s still not clear just what the developers at Square Enix plan to do next, but the ending makes it very clear that the project’s director, Tetsuya Nomura, has spent the past two decades as the chief creative behind Kingdom Hearts, the messiest and most complicated story in JRPG history.

Dualshockers:And here is where it all started to come apart for me. For a brief while, I was ripped out of Final Fantasy 7 and dumped heavily into an unholy marriage of Advent Children and Kingdom Hearts. It was awkward, it was confusing, and it left me shaking my head in dismay. It felt massively out of place. Did this part have to change so dramatically? Maybe. It wasn’t a true climax or game-ending point in the original, after all, and I expected some new conclusion and an added boss or two to cap off this experience. Yet, until now, it had been such a solid remake that made measured changes to supplement the classic story. Here, at the eleventh hour, it jarringly erupted into a massive spectacle that honestly felt like underdeveloped fanfiction

JAYRPG called it a pile of horseshite.

But the music was porn and chapter 9 was pretty cool.

I read the spoilers because why not it's a remake after all and I've played the original.

Gotta say I think what they did is a cheap copout and something nobody asked for.

Yea. It’s bad bad. I’ve been saying this for years but people need to give up on SE FF division. The great leaders they had are long gone. Glad I didn’t get too excited.

People who hold the original story in high reverence are the ones gonna be most pissed. Casual fans and newcomers won't understand the controversy or particularly care.

Gotta think they coulda easily made both groups happy.

Yep. It’s almost like they are poking fun at the fans, with that plot design.

I don’t even get what the plan is for the next edition. I guess it’s wide open now. Nomura can do whatever crazy idea he has at will now.

I’ll just wait until the entire game is finished before I come to a conclusion on the plot.

I mean...there are massive fans of the 1997 who absolutely love the game. I've watched their reviews. I refuse to read spoilers so I'm going to wait until I actually play the game to pass judgment on this supposed "twist ending." I'm not necessarily a purist and don't demand the story be EXACTLY like the original game. If it's way too outlandish, however, I might have some problems. But that really depends on the progression of the story. If it makes sense in the context of the story they are telling with this game, I probably won't have issues with it.

Part of me is sad I didn't get to experience the original in it's heyday and form that emotional attachment to the game like a lot of you did. A part of me is also happy I didn't so I can enjoy the remake without those emotional attachments

Really enjoying the original though, the remake has a lot to live up to.
