No review is complete until chapter 18

I pretty much agree with everything you said for the most part though. Combat is great.

The update to the motorcycle chase makes up for the story changes.

Part 2 is shaping up to be FF7's Empire Strikes Back

Same. A lot of reviews are complete and it’s standing at an 88. Can’t be all that bad.

ya but the one consistent negative seen across the reviews is the ending. the most worrisome snippet was from dualshockers: "at the eleventh hour, it jarringly erupted into a massive spectacle that honestly felt like underdeveloped fanfiction."

either way, im on this train. guy on reddit wrote some big thing saying how it was his lock for GOTY and then he hit chapters 17 & 18 and it ruined the game for him.

i know, i know. but if but if but if but if

I felt like this too for the most part... But I knew it was coming already because I read the spoilers. So I had this fear as I knew what was coming.

The user score is at an 8.0, which seems about right.
The game could have been over a 9.5 if it didn't go this route.

I say this knowing many people won't care or will love the ending.

There are still things I did not like about the story before the ending though. Like Sephiroth being so out in the open. His distance and mystery in the original was part of what made the first act great IMO. Now they just shove him in whenever they can.

I get it. But I also like that its going to be a bit new. Im letting 7 be 7 and 7R be 7R. I set aside expectations years ago in just everyday life in general and I found life has become much more enjoyable and I do the same for movies, video games, etc. Often setting expectations leads to disappointment.

Like you or someone said pt.2 could easily be empire strikes back once things get fleshed out..who knows. I sure hope so.

Ohh and playing as Aerith is amazing. They are trying hard to make it painful for some again.

Also saw that in Japan Zack was voted best FF boi. Cloud was second. So wouldn't surprise me if we get a lot of Zack later.

Just finished it. The ending was weird but I suppose they needed it to be a little like that in order to justify breaking the game into parts. It would have been so boring if it would have ended like the original did when you left Midgar. There needed to be some kind of climax to the first part of the story.

Based on the ending cut scenes, I feel like the next game will feature a lot of flashbacks to Cloud and Zack to set up the twist that Cloud wasn't ever a SOLDIER. It's still faithful to the original game and I would definitely recommend it to anyone on the fence about playing it.

I give it an 8.5/10.

Makes sense. I also agree we will be seeing a bit of zack. Maybe though all this he makes his way back to Aerith if only maybe for a short min. Imagine that reunion? Wouldn't surprise me if they manage to pull out all the stops and feels.

The first "Act" in the original went all the way through Cloud giving Sephiroth the Black Materia at the Northern Crater.

Man is Cloud ever going to rock any of these chicks? Dude is scared shitless of three beyond hot anime girls.

Also, the massage parlor scene was insane. My gf thinks I only play Japanese erotic games now when it’s only like 20% of my library.

I for one...can never have enough Sephiroth. Part of XV's problem was Ardyn. A great villan..who you just...didnt get to know. fricking sucked. Im sure its better now with his DLC but frick man. Ruined his potential.

I love Sephiroth, one of the great video game villians of all time.

Arydn's DLC is really good, if you havent tried it, it definitely fills in that story, it's really good. It's $5, well worth it.

The semantics of when the first Act ended has nothing to do with my point.

I was content to watch streams of FF7 Remake since I don't have a PS4, even though the original was one of the formative games in my young life. However, after catching the ending on a stream and (at least kinda) understanding what's happening I now think I'm going to have to give in and get it. Like someone said above, let FF7 be FF7 and FF7M be FF7M. I think they'll hit all the major story beats and add in some new ones, and now I want to take part in it.

My only worry, and it's a big one, is if they are going to stick to killing Aerith. While the characters are setting off exactly as they did when they left Midgar in the original game, the overall narrative seems to have changed. Potentially anything can happen going forward.

It is my belief, however, that Aerith absolutely needs to die because her death raises the stakes.
