Final Fantasy 16

I am not a final fantasy guy. I played the Super Nintendo one to death. I remember liking the one that takes place on pretty beaches and had that weird swimming sport.
I tried a bit of the FF7 remake and it didn’t grab me.
I saw I somehow have 16 in my library and started it last night on a whim.
Man, this shite is excellent. I ain’t even a big action game guy (other than Devil May Cry 4) but absolutely everything for this is hitting for me so far. Just beat the first boss. Kinda shocked this game was controversial

I thought the story was solid and liked how they went with a darker tone, but the combat sucks, it gets repetitive as frick. I found myself spamming the exact same combos in every fight. I also didnt think the graphics were up to par which is normally what FF is known for.

I loved 16. I understand the criticisms about the combat and some of the side quests being repetitive, but I could definitely overlook that for everything this game did right. Amazing story, memorable characters, great music, and the fights against Titan and Bahamut were insane. Personally I think the combat catches too much flack. I enjoyed setting up different abilities and finding cool combos that can go off. I don’t regret one second I spent playing this game.

Story and boss fights are incredible. Music and voice acting/lines are also top-notch.
Battle does get incredibly repetitive, but I didn't really mind it because the boss flights were some of the greatest in the entire series.
That said, the ending was awful (no spoilers). I didn't mind what they did, but it was done absolutely poorly. For a game to have so many epic moments and tell a story so, so well, to end on a dud was a huge let down.

My only complaint would be that the best character was heavily underutilized.
