Fanboys blame Covid19, but it's yet another example in a long long long line of multiplayer games being a complete shitshow at launch because studios refuse to buff server infrastructure to support the launch rush.
Did you just somehow completely ignore the *massive* influx of players around July-August, mostly from the exposure from streamers like Asmongold? They haven't had the time to get the infrastructure in place to handle that influx on top of all the players taking a break waiting for the next expansion.
ETA: I see Blitzed covered this rather succinctly. You not caring about his post doesn't change the fact there is no way Square could have seen this summer coming.
I mean do you think Yoshi just has to get on New Egg and buy a couple new servers and problem solved? Do you even remotely understand the planning and lead time needed for that type of data center expansion and/or overhaul?

They were even willing to pay above asking price for the hardware they needed.
People just want to complain brother. Makes em feel a certain way.

On a more positive note. It seems to be better than ShB after no one thought that would be possible. It even seems to elevate ShB.
Soken has of course out done himself and the tears are flowing.
I’m stoked and proud.

I'm just starting to get into the meat of the MSQ. Got a good amount of playing time in on Friday and Saturday. Yesterday? Not so much.
I'll have all day Thursday and Friday though, and will be able to log in around 6am both days.
I figured this one would be Soken and Ishikawa's magnum opus.

I'll save the words for when the credits roll, but so far Endwalker is the definition of art

Just finished MSQ
It's Endwalker
I have been emotionally sundered into 1 and 13 reflections. Storytelling/writing doesn't get any better. An OST doesn't get any better. Everything fits perfectly - an entire decade of adventures woven together as wonderfully as a medium can possibly do
If I never log in again I can be at peace having gotten to experience the ride. It's an absolute gem

Awesome. I remember first dipping my toes in ARR around July this year after being completely fed up with Blizzard and their bullshite.
I got to the end of the ARR MSQ and thought "jesus, there's no way this could be better". Then I played Heavensward.
Then I played Shadowbringer.
I can only imagine how blown away I will be when I finish Endwalker.
I'm just past the Tower of Zot, specifically just started "Sound the Bell, School's In". And it's already been awesome.

I think the 82-83 zone building into the 83 dungeon may actually be the biggest lull, necessary development pacing but it dragged a little
Once the 83 trial comes you'll realize that you're on a rollercoaster and it really doesn't let up until the credits

I've had some issues with the game, but it has been a great ride overall. Reaper and Sage are honestly fantastic jobs that work incredibly well. Had a lot rl things pop up to slow me down this past month, but I hope to finish up MSQ today or tomorrow.

The game has been pulled from sale for the past month or so but will be back January 25th btw. For those who have been interested in trying it out.
Was basically pulled due to overwhelming popularity bogging down all servers and SE made a big peepee move for its current subscribers.

I’d like to jump into this game after years of putting it off. I’ve heard a ton of glowing reviews about it and the expansions lately so I decided to install it today after hearing about a 60 day trial. Problem is I had tried it probably 6 years ago for a free weekend or week on ps4 and I’m not sure they will let me do a trial with the version I bought. I’d also like to start fresh and not jump back in to a character that I played for maybe 3 hours and never picked back up.
Anyone have recommendations on what I should do or should I just pay for a month and go from there? The version I bought was some complete edition late last year before the most recent expansion came out

Are you still planning on playing on PS4? The licenses don't give you a PC copy.
There's literally a free login campaign til June 30th - LINK
So you can just log back in now. Pick up the old character and create a new character if you'd like.
Keep in mind that you will not have the latest expansion ($40), so you'd have to come out of pocket to get all of the latest content. That said, it would literally take you a month or two of dedicated play to get that far.

So I finally got it working and I guess the pc copy I bought last year gave me a free 30 days. I never saw anywhere where I could use a code for the 60 I’ve seen. Also I read elsewhere that there’s a free trial version that doesn’t let you do all the stuff you would for a full version.
Yes this is on pc and it has everything up to endwalker. I’m just planning to play a month or two and see how I like it. If it’s way too grindy and I’d have to play a full year to reach the end of the main stuff I may not stick with it

The game isn't very "grindy" from a level/gear standpoint.
But the main story is very long. It will take you awhile to get through all the content is what he means.

I know nothing about this game other than “FF MMO”. If I were to get into it (on PS5), what’s the best way to do it and how much is it going to realistically set me back to get the expansions/membership? Or if that’s a hold for sale only.

I think I bought this complete edition that had all the expansions before endwalker for around $40 on a sale in November. You’d still have to get endwalker which is $40. Steam is having their summer sale right now which has all of it for $60 so there may be a sale on ps5 at some point

You can play for free until lv 60. Which covers the base game and the first expansion.
That is months of content. The game will have you hooked or not by the end of that. Then decide if you want to keep playing.

It's not grindy at all. Think of each expansion as it's own standalone story. A story in a JRPG takes you 40-50 hours usually and that's how long it will take you to complete each main story. That doesn't even take into account all of the very fun optional things to do.
You're doing repetitive things, but there's a lot of story to play through. I would suggest that everyone playing at least gets to the start of Heavensward (end of base game, start of 1st expansion). It's all part of the Free Trial and I thought the game really picked up in that part of the story.

The easiest way to play the game on PS5 is to buy -> LINK
You could also download the free trial and try that. LINK
