funny thing about Souls games is you go into every boss fight (well, this applies to me at least) and panic and get destroyed right away. It takes a couple or a few attempts to get a feel for the fight.
You need to try Sekiro. It flips this on its head and really fricks with you.
If you can parry the knights in Anor Londo it's a lot easier.

Looks like a game I would rage quit very very quickly

That’s my worry. I just don’t have time to learn the nuances of every boss. Hopefully the difficulty settings don’t start at “one broken controller”.

VaatVida got to play the final build of the game and put some thoughts in a YouTube video with very minimal possible spoilers but not really. Basically the network test was a bit of red herring. Final build is much more difficult.
My takeaway from what I’ve seen so far is just based on the structure of this game it will be easier than dark souls or Bloodborne but I could be completely wrong. It’s definitely a spiritual successor to those game that also includes bits of Sekiro like stealth. A best of all things jammed into one.

Ive been looking over the starting classes trying to decide which one I'm gonna start with. Can't decide if I want to go magic/Dex or quality on my first run.

I’m pretty inexperienced in these games but I have more fun doing melee combat so I’ll likely start with a quality build and if I happen across some weapons early on that require a shite ton of strength then I’ll likely go straight strength build

They may as well call it Dark Souls 4 but I get it.
Massive open world, new crafting and stealth system. Power stancing weapons is back.
I'm wondering what the mind stat is about.
That's pretty much it with me. It looks no different than all the other Soulsbourne games From Software has pumped out over the years.
Souls is basically CoD at this point

And theyve all been really good. No reason to think this will be any different.

With Dark Souls/Bloodborne I almost always start out with whatever feels balanced. Dexterity play is my favorite but IMO the crane sucks arse in Bloodborne and I despise strength builds so I’d always go saw and eventually claim blades or mercy/ but final decision rotated around Chicage (and buillding a sick bloodtinge build which is amazing fun if you know what to do) and Rokuro if you are willing to brave the sharks.
Elden ring is a different beast. Imo and I admit I have seen much of the game only network test which again WAS a red herring don’t expect to find powerful early game items like you did there, the importance of being able to power stance but also transition weapon arts between weapons, and what appears to be the absolute possible OPness for certain magic/spells/etc plus spirit summons which cost FP. Idk if you followed the network test but they included many later game items in a starting area, vendors there sell vastly different things, it’s way harder to get the shards needed to upgrade weapons. Who knows what the meta will come to be around this game but I think a good idea first play through is find a character adept in one of the areas of magic but also capable of holding on in a fight. A bit like a pyromancer for DS1.

Mind stat raises your FP. FP is used for spirit summons and some are INSANELY powerful so much so there’s ones that could possible be found in the area that was released for the network test, now in the main game that you most likely can’t even used until you invest pretty modestly into the stat. One last thing vatvida shared his video on the limited amount of time he had with the final build (of which he only explored the area we had for the network test so really I recommend watching his video on this you are being spoiled as he just talks a bit about its difference). There’s legit an AMAZING amount of random shite that I’d wager 99% of the game won’t tell you, especially if coming from a network text perspective and expecting things to be where they aren’t if things to work how they won’t.
As far as easiest possible class, he only mentioned one in the final build video some time of key they opens these fogiec(not boss walls) you might seen in the network test play through. These usually provide a weapon or short cut but that’s alll he said about starting gifts.

Yeah I played the network test. I'm thinking of going with either Prisoner or Astrologer class I think it's called . The enchanted Knight class was badass and that's what I'm shooting for. I didn't come across many, if any pyro spells, but I imagine they will be in there. Less than two weeks to go. Horizon Forbidden West this week and Elden Ring next week.

Elden ring literally breaks their mold in so many ways but of course the “muh it’s just dark souls 4” mouth breathers will be here. Just because the aesthetic of combat can at times resemble dark souls doesn’t mean combat itself is ANYTHING like dark souls. How many dark souls games did you play that you could ride a horse and fight on it, roam a massive free world, incorporate all the best ideas from each installment from soft has put out since DS1 into a story written by a man who many regard as the greasier fantasy mind and author of our time? I have spoken to and watched people who played both network text and a had 13 hours with the final build. This game is a loose spiritual successor that the kids he’s that cake before but only taking the best from them. I’m not saying it’ll be great, or even hood (I hope it’s the best thing ive ever played) but I am saying your point is dumb as frick

I didn’t play the network test just watched vatviddas vids. I will be choosing a class conducive to a dex build that utilizes one of the two types of magic likely miracles. We should all join forces on here to fend off gank invasions
Posted on 2/13/22 at 6:44 am to td01241
Oh yeah and in the final build according to vatvidda I was speaking will not to far in find tailoring tools letting you do what Soulsborne fans have wanted for a long time, add remove cloaks among other things the extent of what now is unclear

Did everyone else digital preorder? I assume just like ghost of tshushima expansion and others it’ll pre download and unlock at midnight?
Posted on 2/13/22 at 9:17 pm to td01241
Yeah I pre ordered. I think it automatically downloads a few days early. Horizon Forbidden West did, so this should as well

If it’s Steam, it pre downloads encrypted, then you have to verify day of. Whether it’s faster to download or faster to verify comes down to whether your internet + storage is faster or whether your storage + cpu is faster. With a high end pc and fiber internet, it’s basically a wash for me. But YMMV.
