I've typically played either dual dagger or sword and shield with quick attacks, lot's of mobility. With this haberd I've been forced to put a lot more into strength, but like I said that thing wrecks shop. I didn't look into it much, but I got the impression that Rennala is the one to go to if you want to re-spec?

Sounds like my guy is doing a pure strength build. I like it.
Keep doing this until you start seeing diminishing returns in the stats, and if you find a beefy weapon that also requires some faith, int, dex, or arcane then start adding to whichever is needed

I'm really dumb about this stuff and too lazy to research it.
If I can re-spec now, I'll actually put more effort into it.

Yeah once you’ve beaten Renalla you can redistribute your stats. Also be aware each stat has a hard and soft cap.

Is there any way to tell this in game or do I need to look all that up?

Look for an item in your inventory called Larval Tear. All you need is one per respec.
Just keep going down the strength/vigor/stamina path until you find another weapon type you want to use, then respec using the larval tear.

I think I’ve ventured too far way too early in the dlc. I’m on ng++. Level 7 scadu and spirit ashes. I stumbled up shadow keep. Ran into messmer. He shite all over me in his second phase. Also ran into that general on the armored rhino. frick that guy

To follow up on my progress. I'm level 67 now. And I've got to say this game is flat out amazing. To follow up on the blood disabling. It still shows up in cut scenes like when dudeman ripped the dragon head off. Or when you kill one of the pot bastards. Which is fine. I just don't care for it as I mow down thousands of enemies time after time. It almost looks comical when I do see it now though. I'm glad they have the option at least. But regardless of all that shite. I'm about 30 hours in and only unlocked 11/42 PlayStation trophies. Eventually I will join you guys in the DLC but the base game is amazing for me and I just wanted to say for anyone on the fence about it. Just dive in. I was so afraid of not liking the game because of difficulty or a dreary landscape or gore. But none of those concerns were true. It's freaking amazing. You can tell all the little nooks and crannies as you go deeper down exploring rabbit holes were intentionally designed by someone who gives a shite and not some soulless procedurally generated BS. You start looking all around caves and dungeons for some sneaky arse developer putting shite in places. You almost start to get a sense for their style after a while and can just feel the right places to look around
Somebody help me. I’m addicted to this fricking game. I ran the mage up level 121 and the Haligtree and got tired of being a squishy bitch.
Restarted a great sword build today. 9 hours later I look up and I’m level 32 and storming The Academy. Beat Margit first try. Godrick 4-5 tries. I think I’m hooked on the sword combat now.
Game is totally different with melee than Mage. It’s like a chess match. Mage was fun but it’s ultimately I was playing assassins creed going grace to grace hoping I don’t run out of FP before the next grace.
I really didn’t wanna restart. I wanted to finish and hit the DLC. But also wanted a true experience as a melee build. Also helps that I understand the Souls systems now since this was my first game from them.

Mage was my first introduction. I went melee quickly and have beat all of the souls games that way.
Learn enemy movements. Nine times out of ten you roll in. Dodging out gets you smoked. Roll and dodge into the enemy and try to get behind them when you can.
Depending on strength or Dex, use faith or arcane (str/fth or dex/arc). You can build some great characters on either of those, but it’s your style of play. Arcane and Faith open up good incantations, which give you time/separation and damage when moving in for melee.

I don't think this really clicked for me until facing Sif in Dark Souls Remastered (which I think was my 2nd FromSoft game ever, after Demon's Souls Remake...played both right before Elden Ring came out)

I'm around level 12 right now with the fragments, and I was wandering around last night and came across some areas that I think were meant for earlier in the run but I clearly missed. This DLC is so easy to either get lost or not follow the progression that probably makes sense from a difficulty standpoint. I was destroying shite last night. Killed a couple of bosses in 4-5 L2 strikes.

For those looking for Scadutree fragments, this map shows where they are and which ones you can get without fighting a boss (I'm not embedding the tweet in case people want to avoid spoilers): Tweet

Yes. You will also need a larval tear to do it.

Apparently the new update fixed the starting positions of Gaius and the Golden Hippo for the second fight and beyond. Hippo wasn’t a problem from me but with Gaius if you didn’t kill him on the first attempt he wouldn’t allow any time for summoning at the start. Good change

Anybody using a sword and shield build have any advice on what weapon/shield to use and the build to go with it?
For the record, I got to 160 on my initial run but never NG+ until now. I’m 190 now and I’ve killed the two main bosses in the first area of the DLC. Currently running a Faith build with blasphemous blade but I don’t really like the spells and the blade feels boring and cheesy.

I'm struggling big time with Prince Consort Radahn. Tried multiple builds to no avail.

I use Fingerprint Shield and either Ruins Greatsword or Giant-Crusher, depending on the area/enemies/boss.
The Furnace Golem on the way to Cerulean Coast is such BS. Just constantly spams the flame tornado attack and I can't even get close enough to hit him. Even with every fire protection spell/talisman, his attacks obliterate me.
