Weird, all my settings were on max and I had a rock steady 144fps with a 3070. No dlss needed.

I have a 2070 and an i5-9600K. That is in no way comparable to your 3070 and your obviously better CPU.

Yeah weird, definitely something going on.

Wonder if there will be a patch before the open beta?

So i guess this game sucks since no one at all has actually mentioned if they like it.

No it's pretty good. Some things to clean up and tweak before release but overall I'm excited for the full game.

I heard a lot of people with good systems having memory leaks with the settings turned up. I just have a 1080ti and everything is maxed out except texture quality. Ran smooth

Overall I didn't like the beta.

I didn't like the dungeons. They are all more or less the same, with slightly different objectives. Because they are all similar, it quickly becomes a slog to go through all of them for the completion bonus. I was tired of dungeons after doing about 4 and seeing that none of them were truly unique.

The skill tree is basic. It doesn't take long to figure out that it results in less options per skill than Diablo 3. Essentially, you only get 2 options instead of 5 per skill. On top of this, your skill hotkeys are limited to 6 which just feels awful but is an obvious decision made to standardize the console and PC experience. On top of all of this, at least through level 25 which is where the beta stopped, you have a generator, a spender and the rest of your chosen skills have long cooldowns, and you have a free dodge skill on a cooldown. There were many situations where you're just generating resources, spending resources, with nothing else to do and it just doesn't feel good at times. This is probably something that will get better with better legendary affixes.

I was most surprised by how bad the story is told. It starts off pretty good and you are fooled into thinking that it's better than Diablo 3. It quickly goes south with cheesy lines, bad writing, and getting treated like you're a child and unable to draw your own conclusions without needing everything spelled out. There are also these weird character hologram sequences which never go over well but blizzard keeps using them in world of warcraft and Diablo.

The bright spot was the combat, but only in certain situations. The boss fights are extremely bland and there is a major break down of the good aspects of combat with bosses having a number of roots, knockbacks, slows and more which feels awful.

To summarize the rest, I'm not a fan of how basic the crafting looked to be, more or less a straight rip from Diablo 3 with 1 major change in being able to relocate and change legendary affixes, the open world with level scaling presents a number of issues with character power while leveling, and the overall graphics and presentation of the game start showing their flaws after you've played for a couple hours.

I have a lot more I can say on this, but in all I'm just disappointed in the game I played and it resulted in me cancelling my preorder. I also do not trust that blizzard will have stable servers for the launch of this game so I'm not interested in any early access anymore. I would love to be proven wrong and I hope the beta was an old build, but I've decided to let people play through and report back on if the game improves before I think about a re-purchase.

I'm adding a couple final thoughts:

Despite all of these negatives, I would have kept my preorder if I felt like the narrative was worth playing through because I do love the stories told in Diablo and Diablo 2. It just wasn't here. Blizzard does not have professional writers anymore and it is apparent across all of their games. We are 1 act in with the beta and there are a number of cringe characters and lines and it's hard for me to say I'm not just done with the story already.

The other thing is there are a number of things that are going on with the UI, the item drops, gold drops, some of the texture rendering, that makes this game feels like a mobile game. Diablo 4 has not been announced for mobile and based on the size of it I would assume it won't be anytime soon. I'm thinking that maybe this game is using some assets from Diablo immortal. There was a major rumor going around that Diablo 4 was not even created until after immortal was announced and because blizzard has to quell the backlash they had to rip off and reskin Diablo immortal as much as possible to have something to show for Diablo 4 one year later. I think these mobile feeling concerns I have lend some credibility to this rumor. This may not be a big deal to you but I would like to know that I am buying a product from blizzard that was developed with good intentions and not as a PR response to an outcry. It takes a lot for me to buy a blizzard game now because of how they operate and this is a major contributor to me cancelling the preorder

Decent summary. I liked almost all of what you didn't like other than the UI and a few bugs here and there as expected in a ~3 month from release beta. There is a reason they did a beta so far out for a game of this scale.

A few tweaks here and there and I am very happy with it overall and it'll be a big time sink for sure.

The Immortal thing is internet hogwash though.

I think thats a good analysis

i very much enjoyed my time with the beta and am looking forward to trying the necro out this weekend and for final launch.

I haven't played an action rpg in awhile and i got the itch.

I do not agree with the narrative being bad. I dont think tis blowing me out the water but is only act 1 right now. What i did enjoy are the side quests that are available. It is nice to have something to do outside of the main line.

I have seen a lot of complaint about dungeons being repetitive. While i can see that there is nice visual differences. As far as mechanics, its an ARPG so im not sure what people are expecting. it not different than any other diablo before it or any other ARPG. i don't understand the beef its getting.

I was pleased with the servers from my point of view. The only time i hit a que was the first night. Any other time was straight into the game. I've been in close to launch betas for other titles much worse than that.

Skill tree to me was varied enough. I did not like D3 skill system and remember bouncing off of the game pretty hard with that being a big point of contention. It is much more streamlined here but with enough flexibility to see many viable builds per class.

I agree the UI has some quirks that i think can be improved. I'd love to see some cursor options. Christ i couldnt tell you how many times i lost sight of where my white small arse cursor was with a snowy background. Maybe thats me just getting old

ive been trying to find a light online game to pop in for short sessions between my single player experiences. I had hoped darktide was going to be that, but it shite the bed and i dont think ill be back to that anytime soon. D4 looks very promising for me, but i can see why not so much for others.

I should have said this in my post, but I do want to emphasize that I really am indicating that this game is just not for me and for my ARPG expectations. I think what you described here, this game is going to be perfect for someone looking to get what you're looking to get out of the game.

I think Diablo 4 is going to be a very successful game and will be a better game than Diablo 3, but is going to struggle to keep a large hardcore min/max audience. This is not the crowd they are really going for anyway.

Am I the only one who thinks the graphics and aesthetic is straight up bad? I got excited for the beta and it was the first thing I noticed and really turned me off. Feels and looks kinda janky like poe or some other Korean game. Everyone wanted a more darker vibe like 1 and 2 and I fully agree but I feel like Diablo 3 looked better and had way more character and atmosphere/details. Even the d2 remake looks better in my opinion.

Overall I enjoyed the beta. I had a 60 minute queue Friday evening and that was it. Every other time I got on I went straight in and I had no disconnects. I really love the darker more gothic atmosphere. I haven't played an ARPG in a while and was quite rusty on the keyboard lol.. I played Barb, overall had fun but felt underpowered against some of the bosses. I started a sorcerer for a couple hours and was able to blow through everything with ease. Next weekend I'll give necro a shot.

Nice response. I was worried about this and didn’t want to preorder.

I love Diablo 2 and was luke warm on 3. But whenever I want a fix I’ll just stick with 2 for the time being.

Ive just been underwhelmed with some of the new games.

I actually stopped playing 2 once I had a thought that I will not share bc it will ruin playing the game for anybody.

Nothing bad or sadistic. Just a conceptual thing.

Call me skeptical. We got so burned by D3
tbh I played the hell out of d3 even though it wasn’t all that. I just need d4 to be slightly better and I’ll be fine.
