Because people like to see how well they did. And the constant dumbing down of Destiny to casual players has always been an issue.
It is nothing to do with ego or whatever you guys like to say.
When you play pvp as much as we do you like to see when you do well, if you are improving, what guns you play better with etc. Going 3rd party to see this is ridiculous.

Please note this is not like any other system I have seen in a video game. If they keep it as is there is literally no way of knowing how many kills you had. Not even as a minor stat that does not go into score. I just don't understand it.
In team shooting environments "Kill Whores" will just start to spray shots to rack up assist now. When killing a single target enemy fast is more important.
They really are doing this just so people don't feel bad about themselves. I see no other reason.
a-hole players will still camp and roam outside of objectives. This won't change that.

My rankings are in the same percentile in KA/D and K/D, exact same. It is about information, not ego. Why give us less?

K/D isn't the end all, be all of MP stats....unless you just play TDM. But ever since COD 4 it's the only thing people pay attention to now.
I'm not saying Destiny 2's system is perfect, with the game types they offered in the beta, K/D would only serve as a bragging point.

That is wrong.
Kills will always be relevant in any game type. Less players alive, less objectives get done. Getting kills is positive in every game type.
Capturing zones in control is more important, yes.
Countdown getting kills is the most important thing. If you try and plant at a disadvantage good luck.
Regardless, what is the issue with showing the amount of kills? Every other game does this. Less is not better. Dumbing down games and features is not a good thing. Objectives should be part of the actual game scoring and not kills but there is no reason not to show it on the stat sheet. This is something Nintendo would do because they know best.

We played countdown a few nights ago and I was 5/0 and I had killed zero people.

Wait people are trying to argue that K/D isn't an important stat in a shooter, am I reading this right? Also what harm is there with showing it, I would think most people would like to know.

Yeah I wasn't to hype for it to begin with.
If I only have time for one shooter this fall it's probably going to be CoD.

If you're looking for something fresh or different, I don't see any reason to buy Destiny 2. I'll be getting it though, because I love the mechanics and level design so much. I could give a shite about the story or new features. Just give me more of the same

I think it's going to be a good change. I enjoyed the new pvp despite getting skull fricked.
I don't really like the new heavy weapon setup since I pretty much use a sniper like a primary in PvE but oh well.

I was a Hunter all Destiny1, a killer with the bow. How do the classes stack up in 2?

Hunter seems to be the worst right now.
Although I don't mind it as much as most. I admit it is lacking.

For my money, Titan was the best. Warlock a close second.
