PC Gamer article

I love XCOM and was looking forward to this, but wtf...

People backed this game under the pretense that it would be released on Steam and GOG, since their FAQ stated that. Epic Games proceeds to poach them and have the game put on Epic as an exclusive for one year. Their game keys, purchased and back to be Steam keys, will not be Epic Games keys.

Scummy as shite. Forcing games onto one platform is not competition, it's monopolization.

They're giving people the ability to at least refund in light of this. I hope people refund in droves, this can't be rewarded.

Yet you want everything on Steam. Makes sense.

When did I say that? Please provide a link.

What I said was I wanted the games on Steam since that was what consumers were promised. I never said I wanted them exclusive to it.

Try again.

What is “A game I definitely won’t be buying?” for 1000, Alex?

And I love me some XCOM too. One of the few current gen games I play repeatedly.

You said you won't buy a game because it wasn't on Steam. You said it multiple times. You are creating a monopoly if you do that. If you don't want a monopoly freely buy games from other launchers.

I will hold out for this, RAGE 2, DOOM Eternal, etc.

I want these games but I won't endorse these business practices.

It is amusing to me how some of these indy companies act even more money grubbing in their own way than the triple A publishers.

You're too damn dumb to understand that it doesn't fricking matter what damn launcher you have if you have Discord as a social medium.

If you have a game that has all those mods and shite it's more than likely going to be on Steam anyway. If it ain't, who gives a frick? You say you have all these friends on Steam and can't do without it. Put them in a Discord and you can do game invites and even see what game they are currently playing with ANY game. WOW no more need to hope it's on Steam with your precious friends list.

FWIW I never said Steam was bad or I don't use it. I just don't give a flying frick what launcher the game I play uses.

There is a difference in wanting everything on your platform of choice and not buying a game because it isn't on the platform of choice.

I don't care if a game launches on the Epic store. I just don't want to see Epic Games successful in coercing more and more third parties to launch their games on the Epic store exclusively for any length of time.

Why though? Can they not get money?

Epic is offering the publisher more money. More money to publishers the less likely they need to rely on microtransactions and the sort.

It's very similar to console exclusives. It separates the community and hinders growth.

Not quite. You can get any of these games on the PC. You just have to go to another launcher. Console is locked behind paying for the console.

That may be true, but there are a ton of issues with Epic from the consumer side of things.

If I like a game, I'll buy it. I hate having Steam, Origin, uPlay, and GOG but I'll deal with it. Of those, Steam is my favorite and I would love it if all my games went through it but I understand they won't.

I think they are the best as well but just don't see it as an issue to have multiple launchers other than a minor inconvenience.

That's why I said it's similar. You're still forced to have to download an entirely new launcher instead of having it on the launcher you want to use.

Just release it on all the launchers and quit this exclusive bullshite

you actually think the Epic Games store is going to prevent microtransactions in games?

That's 100% not what the said at all. He said if the publishers are generating more money from Epic offering the Epic Store as a distributor then the publisher is possibly less likely to use micro-transactions as a way of recovering game development costs

These companies are not altruistic. Why are you caping for giant corporations. They're not going to treat you better because they made $12m in profits instead of $11m.
