Played for an hour. Going to have to get used to the combat.
Soooooo much to explore
Gorgeous world, great voice acting.
Having a blast. Can't wait to get back to it later

These controls will take some getting used to for sure. I will say that the world looks incredible. Just got a chance to get a real top down view of the land at the first sky area and it’s pretty jaw dropping.

The more I play, the more I am convinced that this game started out as a F2P GACHA game that was converted to a single player RPG late in development.

29 FPS on my 5090 with everything maxed on DLAA in the first area. KCD2 in experimental and DLAA performs much better.

Played for 4 hours tonight. I’m enjoying it. Combat has been fun and game feels alive.
Running well on my 9070xt. Didn’t have any issues and felt smooth throughout.

Xbox Series X impressions 2 Hours
Balanced and Quality Graphic options are unplayable for me. I can play 30FPS games that handle it well (Both Zelda open world games for example). This is just too jarring for me.
Performance mode runs a fairly smooth 60FPS with some stutters. There is a bit of texture loss but no difference in the amount of foliage and effects blowing around. Even on performance it is a really good-looking game.
The UI is a mess. Some menus you can use analog and dpad, others are dpad only. Analog can be used in inventory, but it is erratic.
The controls feel off and janky at times. Character does not move around on foot as well as in other games.
Picking up items is more of a chore than it should be, even when locking in on an item. Sharing jump (x) and picking up items (hold x) was a terrible idea.
Made it to chapter two but the only combat I have done was at the start of the game and two guards when you get past the intro. Did die once running out of stamina when I fell in water on a mistimed jump.
Story is what it is. I generally do not need a great story to enjoy a game. The less dialog in some areas the better. Did a side mission cleaning a chimney and they would not shut up.
The game does not hold your hand and for me that is fine but for some it could be an issue. The first puzzle in the sky, which had far too much basic platforming has been an issue for many players as you can overlook a few things and a newly acquired power required to solve it.
The explorer in me, finding all the items around the world has me excited. There is a ton to do, places to go and it really is a beautiful world. If they can add some controller customization, UI fixes and make player movement much smoother I can see putting a hundred hours in it.

Played more
Combat is just janky. still having a hard time getting used to it. I keep winning, but it is always a surprise to me.
I don't really care about the story
just having so much fun exploring the world, and that seems to be the main focus of the game.
7.5/10 so far

I bounced around from PC to PS5 pro version last night. PC looks better but I prefer the ease of use with consoles, and typically better HDR.
Regardless, after exploring around a tiny bit around the first town. I can see this game could easily scratch that Elden Ring “I need to check around every corner itch.”
At the same time movement is indeed clunky and slow. So it seems like it will be slow to climb and explore. Will see how I feel once I get used to them.
The menu and inventory system is the absolute worst shite I have ever seen in a game. It needs a complete overhaul. They should just implement a generic soulslike menu system.

IGN is such a shite review site. They deserve zero traffic. They rated this a 6 while giving a 7 to Concord, Dustborn and pretty much everything shite gets a 7 from them along with a 9 to Veilguard.
I'm probably going to wait for some patching before picking it up but I do like the ability for the bad guys to conquer your territory and you need to retake it and wipe their strongholds to stop them from taking it again. I like puzzles and there appear to be a lot of them. I like being rewarded for exploration.
Enemy AI looks pretty bad because most videos show the main character taking on 30 enemies at once. I can deal with wonky controls or at least I have in the past. I guess it depends on how wonky.
I will probably end up getting this one. It has been a while since I picked up a girthy adventure / rpg.

Honestly a 6 might be a little harsh but it’s somewhat of a mess. I’d probably give it a 7 or 8 just off the world design alone though. However there are definitely some things that will run off a lot of people.

I think the hype train is part of the problem. I've seen nonstop glazing on this game on YouTube for a few weeks. I think a lot of people will be disappointed in the narrative or lack thereof.
If you don't like sandbox games, I would imagine this isn't for you. Also zero hand holding. You have to figure out a LOT of the mechanics on your own.
I like old school gaming without yellow paint or endless tutorials. I would imagine if I ever get around to it I will like it. I just need to be in the mood for a big sandbox.

My thought on this game, which I said earlier, was to wait until it had been out for a few weeks to see if positive reception holds up.
Watching streamers play it, the game looks like pretty typical open world slop if I'm being honest about it. The combat just does not look interesting to me either.
Hope I'm wrong about it because I would like a new game to sink some time into, but what I'm seeing of people play it so far I think we'll see a dramatic decline in reception for people who are currently enjoying it.

Played for an hour last night it took mine till 1230 to download. Controls are definitely stiff. Fighting wasn’t bad. I bought the deluxe version so I’m going to commit as much as I can, although hearing the story is nothing sucks. I will say the view when you cross the bridge on horse at the beginning was epic

Hype is only good for driving up sales. It’s bad for the customer because it gives them high expectations which are never good as far as enjoyment goes. It’s always better to have low expectations. If the game sucks, oh well you were expecting that. If the game is amazing then it’s even better when you were expecting it to suck

Combat is growing on me.
I love the lack of "Focus, M" dialog "yellow paint-ism". . .but I can see why younger gamers would be put off by it. They have grown up with handholding.
Makes every accomplishment more satisfying
Don't care about the story, probably won't care for a while.
Controls are a real problem, I will say

I’m 10 hours in and still enjoying it. Continuing to pick things up as I go. It’s a lot of fun destroying large groups of bandits. Surprisingly, I haven’t been just randomly exploring, more so just going through the main quest line.
I do hope they roll out custom controls though. There’s definitely some head scratching decisions for button mapping.
