Anyone have a suggestion for me? With a shield down, would I be better off upgrading storage or production? Or does that really matter?

I always say production last. I wouldn't worry about your shield, you want to be raiding it's the fastest most effective way to get resources to keep your builders busy.
I'd upgrade my level 2 army camp ASAP, and probably my 2 level 3 camps. That will allow you 15 more troops per raid which is a huge difference at the point you are in the game.
With only 2 builders I wouldn't upgrade mines, elixer pumps over level 6 until I was having idle builders because I was short resources, which if you raid a lot and effectively may not really happen. I'm in the 50s and all my mines/pumps are 6 and 7s.

I'm having real trouble increasing my trophies, I keep hovering around 1000, I just suck at raising and keep losing trophies that way, plus I get killed and lose more.

I'm currently saving for town hall lvl 8. Can't seem to get over 1.5 Millon gold. Keep getting attacked before I can save it up

You should upgrade everything you have at lvl 7 first.

Yeah worst thing I could have possibly done was I rushed from TH 7 to TH 8 in a few days.
Max out your defenses and army camps, etc. at TH7 before upgrading. It becomes much harder to raid at TH 8 and there's obviously a multiplier comparing THs so the lower the TH the more loot you get off someone else.

Ahh thanks for the advice. I thought it purely went off of trophy count so I didn't think it made any difference which lvl TH is.

I agree. But I like to upgrade defensive units while my shield is up. I've been getting hit pretty hard these last 2 or 3 days when my shield is down. I figure I need to do something to boost my defenses.
