China just surprised me with early war, sent six warriors over to me. I was able hold them off and build a few archers. Made their asses pay.

It has come to my attention that your army is quite puny!

God damn it Aspyr just changed the min specs for the Mac version from 2.3 to 2.7 i5 CPU (I have a 2.5). I was already on the low end with the unsupported iGPU Intel 4000, and was hoping my extra CPU and my 16 sticks of RAM would make up for it. Assholes just ruined my plans.

Any news on how the PC potato rigs are running it under minimum requirements? I'm reading PC systems under the minimums are still running it on low settings just fine. It's a turn based strategy game so really even 10-15 FPS is fine for me if I can get it there.

I used to play 4 on my very old mbp, and was able to run 5 on our iMac if I booted into Windows. My advice would be to to bootcamp it to Win 7.

Christ I've read about boot camp, and it's just pretty intimidating. Haven't looked into it, but don't I need to buy a windows 10 key? If that's the case I'd rather just wait for my next computer.

Games like Civ and Cities:Skylines are CPU dependent, not GPU, so the game doesnt look all that different on low settings vs high. To get a smoother experience you can turn off combat and movement animations, but the leader screens and wonder movies will still suffer. If you are running less than the recommended CPU I wouldnt start a campaign with anything but the standard map size and AI count. Otherwise you'll be in for some really long turn rotations.

Put in maybe 40 turns this morning. Stark contrast to civ 5 in a good way. It's true the maps are much better and the game just feels more lively.

Yeah that's why I was depending on that extra bit of CPU to help, but Aspyr shot that down. I've been perusing the steam forums though, and their definition of "minimum" seems to be running smoothly on default in late game (when all the shite is hitting the fan). That's reassuring as the lag in late game is unavoidable to a degree, and doesn't really bother me.

Im not sure I've ever played with more than standard, as my preference is a smaller game, so that won't be an issue.

Thanks for the advice! Given Steam's pretty liberal refund policy, I'll be trying it out regardless of what happens. Here's to hoping Aspyr's "minimum" standards are as high as they say and the game will run...

Good luck with it!! Hopefully by bumping down a lot settings you'll be able to enjoy it! When I ran 4 on my old mbp I believe I was well below system requirements, and still it was playable. It only got bad deep into the game where there were so many in-game systems happening.

The real test is if it will play on my surface pro. I'll be giving that a try this weekend

I'll post my benchmarks for reference once this baby finally drops. They're saying latest it'll be out by next Tuesday for Mac, but potentially could release tonight.

I can't figure out how to pillage. Or to defeat encampments.

The pillage button is on the far left of the unit action toolbar. It's a torch icon.

Um, for encampments, you have to go into them. Once your unit stands over the encampment, it disappears and gives you gold or whatever else.

I would play 5 on my original surface pro on medium settings at 1080p, so if you have a newer one you should be fine

I might wait a little while for more mods to come out. I got Civ 5 with all the xpacs for like 50 on Steam some time back, and with certain mods it is awesome. Maybe the best game I've ever played.

Got to play for a while Friday, raiding coastal towns with Viking longships is fun as shite. I've played several times up to like 40 turns and started over. Really loving it so far.

I played Civ Revelations ( yes I know its not a REAL Civ game) and Civ 5.

Civ 6 looks like its worth the play through. Im definitely planning on buying. The art style isnt that bad, but it does come off as a cartoon like (kind of like Civ Rev....hmm)

Damn this has caused lack of sleep for me. Played as Russia on the huge map first, so far I'm liking it.
