a game that we own, Disney's Villainous (and two expansions) is a great game to have in the event that you or a buddy has a wife/girlfriend/significant other that doesn't get into the complex board games. Chances are, that type of person probably loves Disney, and this is a fairly interesting yet easy strategy game hidden behind some Disney thematic artwork and characters.

It has some simplified elements from games like Scythe that require some thought and foresight, but it's easy enough for most to pick up and enjoy. This might serve as a gateway drug into the hobby.

One thing I'd like to mention. I learned pretty quickly not to blindly trust the rankings on Board Game Geeks. It's a great resource but I found it was much better to figure out which specific game mechanics you enjoy. Gloomhaven might be considered the best game currently on their list but it's a pretty hefty investment only to find out you hate dungeon crawlers/campaigns.

Solid advice.

I originally had it on the category but was trying to cap the categories at 3-4.

Great game though especially for anyone just getting into board games.

Jack Box Party and The Resistance are the two games we always play when we have people over. Both are a ton of fun

If you have a PS4 I would also recommend Play Link Games. Knowledge is Power, That's You, and Frantics are all great games for just hanging around and for some good laughs.

Dominion is a great deck builder. It was the first of it's kind so while I enjoy the hell out of it, it's not the most thematic version of deck building. Now there's clank, Arkham horror, and lots of other deck builders that draw on a lot of other game types.

I personally enjoy the Legendary series. We mostly play Marvel because it has a billion expansions and my friend has bought them religiously, but if you can get your hands on the Aliens one I've heard it is remarkable to play.

Apparently it's $39.90 on Amazon.

If you enjoy card games that are easy to learn, grab some Pokemon theme decks

Then you can move to the more complex decks that make the game so amazing

true story, although one would think that someone who is about to drop $120 or whatever on a game would research it first before buying

If you are in to deck builders Aeon's End has moved up to the top of my list for Deckbuilder games.

for those of you who have played Pandemic Season 1 and Season 2, does the real-life goings on in the world with Coronavirus, aka COVID-19 remind anyone of the Pandemic COdA virus? lol

state of Kentucky just drew an Epidemic card after finding out that a Walmart employee has it.

I really want to play these, but wanted to do it with a more consistent group, which I don't have.

But still

Man, I need more friends like y'all. We have played Betrayal and Settlers... That's about it, but I really want to play more stuff. Others aren't interested really. I played an older game called Small World the other day. That was fun. Kings of Toyko I think is next on the agenda

Small World is great. The Underworld version is fun as well.

If you like Small World, and you like Catan, then try Scythe. In my mind, it's almost like a combination of the two. In fact, combine the mechanics of Catan, Small World, and the Disney Villainous games, and you pretty much have Scythe.

Of course, you'll have to find some friends that won't get intimidated by the 30-40 page game manual.

Played some Pandemic last night. Forgot how fricking hard that game is, and we played with only 4 epidemic cards.

It's been a while since we've last played and lost because we ran out of player cards (didn't realize that was a losing mechanic until we actually ran out )

Played Terra Mystica on Monday. Pretty similar to Terraforming with some Catan elements. Played with only 3 people, but seems like it can get crazy playing max amount of people.

Tea and Victory in Houston has been a good avenue to get some new game exposure.

Also got a group to commit to Gloomhaven. Ready to go down the rabbit hole.
