Saw the headline. This coupled with Bethesda not releasing 76 on Steam............Howard put on his big boy pants, it would seem.

ETA But the article makes a good point. If Sony isn't allowing the biggest game in the world (Fortnite) enable crossplay, how much luck would a card game have? Getting a big name vocal in this fight could be interesting. It's OK for Spencer to talk a big game about crossplay, but lets get the developers to take a stand as well.

i don't see sony flinching on this one. maybe if it was battlefield or call of duty threatening to leave the ps4 console out of development, they'd flinch. but they're not flinching over a shitty card game.

You reviewed the game already?

Again, I think this is more about the developer, not the game. Obviously this would carry more weight if they had this stance with 76, but baby steps.

i just said that because i don't play them. and i assumed it due to hearthstone not being some revolutionizing game like fortnite or pubg.

i just don't hear about card games going mainstream like these shoot 'em up games.

Hearthstone did really well and they are still releasing expansions. I'm not a card game person myself, they knocked it out of the park with that one.

So with Bethesda and Valve releasing card games based on their most popular franchises, its seems like an appealing "filler" type game that doesn't require a lot of development resources, has it's niche market, and will do well enough while they are working on other projects.

This title is dumb. Not a chance this forces Sony to do anything.

But Sony already allows you to play Fortnite with 1st and 2nd most popular platforms (PC and PS4). While not playing ball with X1/Switch without revenue sharing is ultimately a bad look, it's really not a big deal.

And I'm not sure how this game will what forces Sony to change. The only thing that would cause Sony to change this is a new generation of consoles, a revenue sharing model for cross platform games, or they start losing. Companies only become consumer friendly when they're losing.

Bethesda is such consumer advocates that they actually go after people for selling unopened games on ebay.

Cross play is such a bizarre issue right now.

DCUO has had cross-play between PS and PC for years. When XBox came along though, it had to be on its own server (and still is). The Devs said it was a Microsoft issue but after reading this article I can't help but wonder if there wasn't some Sony fuss about it as well.

Daybreak Games used to be a first party studio for Sony.

I hope Sony holds out on this. PlayStation sucks so bad. It needs to die.

It was Amazon, and all they said is he can't advertise it as "new."

So bad that they're keeping the industry in a somewhat positive direction. Can't imagine how many more studios and publishers would have died had the PS4 not been as successful as it is.

It's always been weird. There are some weird bits that go along with it. Final Fantasy XIV has been on PS3/PS4/PC for a long time now will crossplay and no PS+ requirement. The game hasn't gone to X360/X1 because of MS blocking cross play. Every situation is different, but I think I found some common bits:

Microsoft requires Gold for all free online games(as it does for Fortnite while no other platform requires a subscription).

Sony will barr any attempt that requires an pass through of Xbox Live/MS systems (Minecraft cross play) or non-revenue sharing (Fortnite).

Playstation is by far and away the best dedicated gaming console out there and it's not really close.

You can argue that dedicated gaming consoles in general are outdated and need to go, but if you're down with consoles than you can't do better this generation than PS4.

Until you get a major studio doing it with something like COD or Battlefield, there is no reason for PlayStation to back down. They’ve sold 80 million plus units, which is probably double Xbox and like 60 million over Switch.

It's newer than buying the display copy of a new game at Gamestop

I "get it," but holy shite what a dumb thing for them to get uptight about.
