There really aren't many choices, if you search this question all the votes are for adopted parents like the Witcher or father-daughter stuff like The Last of Us.

I think God of War and GOW: Ragnarok actually stand alone when it comes to capturing a true father/son journey.

are there more games like this that I am missing? I haven't played a ton of xbox games but I did play Brothers (obviously not father/son) and enjoyed it.

A Plague Tale was 10/10 too but also that doesn't fit.

I just finished GOW Ragnarok. I can't imagine there's any games that top the GOWs for father-son stories. It's better than most movies.

Ghost of Tsushima is about uncle-nephew with the uncle having raised him since childhood. There's strong family themes in that one

Fallout 4 is about a father-son but that story kinda sucks.

I'm still trying to beat the berserker king and Gna first. It's not going too well

Going through Halo on co-op maybe? Get in The Library on legendary and really test that bond

ETA: or are you meaning the game itself is about a father/son journey?

KCD. Everything Henry does is either for the father who raised him or the father who sired him

The Library

Worst level of all time.

I actually played some multiplayer with my father on the original halo. Good times.

We would have LAN parties with 4 xboxes and 16 players

Ragnarok wasn’t even half as good as the first

I mean it's clearly the God of War 2018 game. There are scant few father/son journey games in video game history up to this point and that one will be hard to top for a long time.

Agreed. What's amusing is many individual elements of the game are slightly "better" than the first but the overall package is significantly inferior

Way too many side characters and stories, makes the story less impactful and focused, very, very underwhelming ending, and the Atreus Angrboda chapter alone is minus infinity points.

Today I learned that if GOW isn’t on gamepass then it isn’t worth a shite

I saw these types of comments before I played the game and I just didn't see any of that. Ragnarok really humanizes Kratos and tells a more epic story. The side characters are pretty well done, especially Sindri and Thor. The part with Angrboda was about Atreus figuring out who he is. The ending led to a lot of speculation about an Atreus spin off game but it doesn't look like that is going to happen. Curious to see what happens with Atreus since they are moving to a different setting, probably Egypt, for the next game.

It's a video game, the entire thing coming to a screeching halt right in the middle for 45 unskippable minutes just sucks. Story in video games is fine in service of gameplay, that was a prime example of the "story" getting in the way. The first God of War did a much better job of having the story integrated into the gameplay more naturally.

I'm putting a bullet in his head as soon as he walks thru that door on my inevitable replay so I don't have to suffer that dialogue ever again.

I have a few friends that have always been xbox/pc guys that refuse to try it

I feel like they are missing out on one of the best games to be released in the past 10 years
