The only real type of review bombing is the kind where a company with an actual good and well received game does something greedy or stupid and the Steam reviews roll to mostly negative which 100% hurts their sales forcing them to walk back or make concessions.

A perfect example of this was the helldivers 2 situation and Sonys psn bullshite just to attempt to force pc users into their ecosystem.

And to be clear I’m totally fine with this behavior. It’s no secret publishers vehemently loath steam and if they had any leverage to get their player counts taken down from public view as well as heavily altering their review system they would’ve long ago.

So...you didn't finish the tutorial?

I finally got a chance to play tonight and I think this game is a blast. Combat is fun and stays true to the Pillars of Eternity games, the controls don't feel clunky to me at all, and the scenery is beautiful. I haven't really started in on the story yet so I guess we'll see how that goes, but exploring this world has been pretty fun so far.

That is a truly epic goal post shift you went through.

You started with this:

quote:

I’d also still be waiting for something I considered epic to be released. There has been nothing. So am I really getting value for my entertainment? Guess it depends on my standards.

Which is an absolute clown take. Game Pass is easily the best value in all of gaming.

You then shifted to this statement because I called you a clown:

quote:

Name 5 epic games that have been released day one for game pass?

This is a completely different standard from your clown take in the post I referenced. The value of Game Pass is not solely dependent on day one releases.

Since 2025 began, I have been on a tear and have played these games on Game Pass so far:

Indiana Jones
South Park: The Fractured But Whole
Far Cry New Dawn
Avowed

Last year, I played these games via Game Pass:

Star Wars Jedi Survivor
Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Unpacking
Assassin's Creed Valhalla
GTA V
Dead Island 2
Starfield
MLB The Show 24
Diablo 4
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Unraveled 1 & 2
Octopath Traveler 1
Mafia
Venba
Escape Academy
Toem
Arcade Paradise
Slay The Spire (been playing this one for years now)

Im sure I missed some, and that also doesn't count the games my kids play. And yes, I had to look up what all games hit Game Pass in 2024 because I played so many games I couldn't remember them all. That's how much value Game Pass provides. I'm sure I played some other EA Play games too but I just listed the EA games I could remember off hand because their website sucks so I'm not searching through it.

Dude you are insanely reasonable in every realm of conversation except when it involves xbox and gamepass for some reason.

The argument isnt (at least from me): theres nothing worth playing on gamepass its all complete garbage and it blows

The argument is: games designed with gamepass in mind as a substantial driver for their users/players, which avowed clearly is and things like the show octopath GTA and basically all other things you mentioned arent, has shown an inability to rise above the mid category. It simply cannot do it.

I am really happy you are enjoying yourself and find great value in gamepass, truly. But you shouldnt strawman arguments nor just disregard what I see from my perspective as the majority view and opinion. It makes you seem like a complete homer tbh. Which I know you are a reasonable and good guy from other boards so I just find it frustrating you refuse to be reasonable about this.

I truly like the value for gamepass and what it offers but to your point, there has not been a day one release on gamepass that I said, “oh wow, I need to actually buy that game instead of rent it”.

People were getting 24 hour bans from the steam forums for the game for being “anti DEI” . I shite you not that’s the reason they were given. Remember, the dev studios moderate their own forums not steam. Obsidian is a clown car full of hacks and likely can’t be salvaged.

People were returning 24 hours later making troll posts about how much they support DEI race quotas and the Democrats now that they had 24 hours to think

lol…I recently downloaded the entire catalogue of Far Cry games on PlayStation Plus for free, starting with FC3 up through 5 including DLC and the spinoffs. I should be impressed that you played Far Cry New Dawn this year in Game Pass?

Well, thats not true, but that's also a silly argument. Game Pass is about the value of the service. Nothing more, nothing less. People aren't buying it just for the day 1 releases. It just isn't reasonable to claim Game Pass isn't the best deal in all of gaming. There is no argument to be made.

Also, maybe I'll get to the bad part of Avowed but so far it's pretty dang awesome. I can't imagine not even finishing the tutorial before deciding it wasn't for me. Feels exactly like how anyone who likes these style of games would want it to feel.

To your point, every Microsoft game is made with Game Pass in mind. They're all going to release on Game Pass on day 1. Call of Duty, Avowed, Starfield, Indiana Jones, Forza, Flight Simulator, Gears of War, Halo, Age of Empires, Outer Worlds, State of Decay, the list goes on and on (and I didnt even mention upcoming games or third party games that released on Game Pass on day 1). At this point, they know every single one of these will be on Game Pass on day 1. Additionally, games like Hi-Fi Rush and the most recent Battletoads release probably never happen if not for Game Pass. It allows them to take chances on those sorts of games that probably wouldnt have sold well otherwise. Of course not every release is a banger, but that has never been the case for any gaming studio ever.

What a very odd statement. I just said it's a game I played on Game Pass this year. I don't care if you're impressed. I've also played Far Cry 5 and 6 through Game Pass. They've all hit the service at one point or another.

Another benefit of Game Pass is the connection with Microsoft Rewards, which is not exclusively a Game Pass thing but has exclusive Game Pass quests. Through MS Rewards, I have rarely paid for Game Pass. Additionally, every XBox game I purchase at full price is paid for exclusively with MS Rewards points. This is a benefit of Game Pass most people sleep on, but admittedly I started building up Rewards points very early on. If you foolishly slept on Game Pass and MS Rewards, this value will take some time for you to realize.

Last week I got every extended edition of the LOTR and Hobbit movies for about 10k reward points total (about $10), so the value extends beyond gaming.

Last year I got MK1 this way. In retrospect, I'm glad I didn't spend any actual money on that one.

I saw this. So far, I'm not seeing any of that stuff in the game outside of being able to make "they" your preferred pronoun during character creation. I just picked "he" and moved on. Game also gives you the option not to show your pronouns anywhere on the character screen, so...I'm not real sure why they even bothered.

The original Trailer, to the actual game, is a super catfish and fraud.

Super lazy programming, it's 100% of it.

The comparison videos, make the game even worse than it is. And remember, this was obsidions Skyrim killer

More people play several versions of skyrim over this junk, and it's brand new. I could be wrong, but i thought i saw 20K continuous on Skyrim vr. If that was what i saw, this game is as bad as concord, in hype and actual players.

If not for Gamepass, it could of been in the 10K or less players in first hyped weekend. horrible for a AAA studio and game with this much hype

Same. Looks great and runs well on pc. Surprisingly well too with RT turned on with an AMD card.

Honestly the only complaint I have at the moment is I couldn't nuke an npc that was talking shite in the first city.

Games looks terrible. Another one in the “Day 1 on Gamepass” bin at Walmart for $5.

This part is a legit complaint. Only issue I have with the game so far. Played most of the day today after church. Just got to the first city.

Game is a lot of fun and it looks amazing. Controls are easy to pick up and combat works really well. I'm swapping between shield/pole arm and pistol/caster.

Yeah it isn't DEI. It's just that this is a mediocre arse game.

Interestingly, like Veilguard, this appears to be another game built upon the bones of a live service title.

The Outer Worlds still felt like it was an RPG. It felt like the developers were shooting for a spiritual successor to New Vegas but didn't have the budget.

Avowed is really lacking as an RPG. Character progression is tied to a handful of really skinny skilltrees. The world is completely dead. NPCs in towns litterally stand in place and emote. You swing your sword at them and literally nothing happens. No reaction or interactivity whatsoever. Your party members are paper thin. Pretty much every interaction is "Hey man, join my party." "Ok" and that's it.

The gear progression completely ruins the entire game. It feels like it was designed by some dipshit millennial/gen z who got a job at Obsidian after working on GACHA mobile games.

Enemies get a damage buff and you get a damage debuff when attacking enemies with higher level gear than you. Likewise, you get a damage buff and enemies get a damage debuff when you have higher level gear.

The problem with this is every new map essentially goes like this, "oh shite, everything is too tough for me." Then you do virtually every side quest and score every inch of the map to scrounge up enough resources to upgrade your gear before you can move on to the main story. Rinse/repeat once you move to the next map.

This is why when you discover a chest via the game's much ballyhooed exploration, 9 times out of 10 it just contains resources for you to upgrade your gear instead of new, unique armor/weapons.

Get a greatsword that is a higher tier than your gun? You are then penalized for continuing with your existing with a lower tier piece of gear.

It isn't difficult. Either scale the enemy encounters to match the level of the player or do away with level scaling entirely.

This push/pull gear system is quite literally the worst of both worlds.
