It's set in the same world, but yeah I don't think it's going to be directly related. I just think playing through those games will help me understand the world better.

Just watched Fextralife's preview

He said the world has massive open maps, but each are individual zones.

Think Deus Ex but waaaay larger

I know you said you preferred that method

I liked The Outer Worlds, but really comparisons to that don't bode well for me. The Outer Worlds was created before they were acquired by Microsoft on a much smaller budget. It's time to see what Obsidian can do with major studio backing.

Not directly linked by characters but the lore is most definitely right after the events of POE2. Is it necessary to play the others? No. Is it helpful so you understand the history of what is going on? Yes.

Unfortunately, you appear to be correct.

I obviously have no idea how this game is going to end up, and I have zero interest in the kind of heavy handed agenda nonsense DA: V peddled in, but just out of curiosity, do you guys have an objection to pronouns/voice acting being separate toggles from sex in RPG character creation, a la BG3 or CP2077?

I ask because I find it odd that “pronouns” are being lumped in almost as a categorical.

Obsidian hasn’t made a good game since new Vegas.

BioWare hasn’t made a good game since mass effect 3.

Bethesda hasn’t made a good game since Skyrim.

Eventually everyone is going to learn that wrpgs in the states are dead from major publishers.

Kingdom come deliverance, eurojank. Same with Witcher. Dragons dogma, capcom/japan. These games are the way.

Until DEI is dead in gaming, the west isn’t it bud.

I don't.

I have an issue with a creative director at a major game studio going even beyond DEI to purposefully hire minorities over white people to justify his white guilt.

This is done at almost every major western studio now fyi.

No, not necessarily. I'd say the dev reaction to people calling it out is a bigger red flag.

If picking pronouns and voice in character creation is as far as it goes, that's not a deal-breaker for me, and I honestly wouldn't even consider that to be extremely odd for an RPG. I'll just pick a normal character and move on.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole handled this hilariously.

Agreed. Trans characters or options for further character creation isn’t the issue: look at cyberpunk or BG3.

Twitter activism, beyond DEI hiring, and alienating 85% of your purchasing audience with certain content in the game and public portrayal of your studio or publisher: that’s the underlining issue here.

To everyone: that makes sense. The root of my question was the Musk/Grummz tweet. My interpretation was that any possibility for trans pronoun usage was a hill to die on, and that seemed like a lot to me

For every million they spend on trans characters that’s a million they could’ve spent on better guns

And how can the devs get any work done when they’re all leaving early for drag queen story hour
