How was the last one received?
I used to love AC but haven't really been enthralled since Origins

The general consensus is that it was decent but overall a step down from Origins and Odyssey.
The side content was not as good, and the main story was a slog to get through.

It was way too big and the viking theme, as cool as it is, didn't really mesh with the AC world.
Plus the character seemed like it was always running through mud. I still beat it, beautiful world, lots to discover and do, but still prefer Origins and Odyssey.

i was pretty stoked for it because of the setting. it was enjoyable for a bit but man was it bloated. The story was all over. i think i finished half of it, and thats saying something for me. if i start a game 90% time i finish it. it takes a lot for me to put something down.

Gonna be set in 1950s Chy-nah and you have to stick to the shadows to hide from the commie reds during the onset of the Great Leap Forward.

Do you like more of the same? You'll love this game.

good uninformed opinion

What's funny is that I do want more of the same. It's just more of the same as the Ezio trilogy or Origins.
More of the same of Valhalla is a big nah for me. Mirage still exists but I don't know a single person that's played it.

I've played about 15 hours of it. It scratches that AC itch but I'm not really into it. The combat is in between old school AC and the new ones, but it somehow feels worse than all of it.
I'm still trying to get my head about the inspection system they do for the missions/story. But that's where I'll defend against the "more of the same" narrative with these games and the Far Cry series. They do have their staples, view points, bandit camps, vast open world, but if you really dig into each one they really evolve the systems in a way that, at least to me, they feel like their own games. Some of them don't work as well as others, I think the quest system in general for Valhalla is too confusing and hard to keep up with, but IMO they don't ever mail it in.

Assassin's Creed Codename Red will be titled Assassin's Creed Shadows for release, according to an announcement from Ubisoft on May 13. The open-world samurai RPG is the next big flagship game in Ubisoft's long-running stealthy series, currently in development at Ubisoft Quebec. Set in Feudal-era Japan and announced among a bountiful slate of upcoming Assassin's Creed games in the works, we also have the the likes of Assassin's Creed Hexe and Assassin's Creed Infinity to look forward to in the future alongside AC Shadows.

I think some of yall are forgetting Mirage was the last one and are talking about Valhalla
Didn’t play Mirage and Valhalla was the first one I played since 2. Valhalla was really cool and I love everything Vikings so I enjoyed it but man was it a lot. I got about 60 hours in and was only showing about 30% completion so I eventually got burned out before finishing. Once I went to the Gods realm or whatever and a million more icons popped up for a whole different map I was like nah

That's me; however, Mirage wasn't really a mainline game. It's like comparing Far Cry Blood Dragon to Far Cry 4.
I liked Mirage quite a bit once I got used to the combat. Too much of "find x key to open y door" though, and the side content was really bland.
I want to see more games like Mirage in between mainline releases just done better overall.

Open world
This is why I hated Valhalla.
Ubisoft's open worlds, for the most part, are big and empty.

empty
That's just not true.

You and I have had this convo before about Valhalla but maybe I'm too used to Bethesda.
Origins (best recent AC) and Odyssey had a good amount of stuff to do while traveling and whatnot, but the Division, Valhalla, Far Cry all seem too big for the amount of content they have.
I don't think they're bad games per se. They're always beautiful, but they always seem lacking.
To me they're consistently a 7 or 8 out of 10. Solid games, not good enough to get big praise, but not bad enough to deserve any real hate.

Not empty, but not as fun as Origins or Odyssey.
I didn't like how every chest was behind a locked door or you had to traverse some elaborate maze. I didn't like how side quests were replaced with those organic event things.

This is a misleading generalization. I personally liked them adding a puzzle element to a lot of those, but it wasn't nearly all of them.
And although I looked origins more, Valhalla had the better works. Was so much to find.
