Had some family things pop up this weekend so I only to put about an hour and half into it. I'm definitely enjoying it so far. Some friends who have made much more progress are saying it's well deserving of its high review scores.

Awesome. I’m finishing up Ender Lilies first (on the last area) and then jumping right into this.

Really liked Berseria, Vesperia, and Zesteria.

The Tales series also has the greatest theme music.

Played about 15 hours this weekend and it is really good. Great music, good story so far - albeit a bit tropey as is normal for the Tales series, and great combat. Knowing your taste from other posts you'll like it.

So far I'd give it a 7/10. It's not the return to form for the series I was hoping for.

I'm about 14 hours in and the structure feels very repetitive. It's basically enter region (all of which are basically biomes unto themselves), go to capital city, go through sub-dungeon, fight sub-boss, go through final dungeon, fight one of the 5 lords. Everything in between is mostly just pingponging back and forth between various NPCs.

There's no real sense of forward progression in this game.

I really like the combat when fighting regular mobs, but the boss fights are almost bad enough to ruin the entire game. They are everything bad about action-JRPGs in particular rolled into one. Every boss (even the sub-bosses) have way too much HP and take eons to kill. The lords in particular seem equipped with abilities that can murder you and/or your party members in one hit.

The game also seems keen on forcing you to do side quests as money is very hard to come by without it, and everything from armor/weapons to items is incredibly expensive.

I have had no money issues or problems with bosses. There are mechanics to them which I respect.
Although I am only two lords down and I do everything there is to do in games like this.

Haven't started yet, as I am trying to beat Bug Fables first, but what difficulty are you playing on?

I haven’t had much time to sink my teeth into the PS5 version but so far it’s the best tales game since bersia if not ever. I used to despise their combat but love their stories however they’ve made combat better slightly every time and I feel this time it’s at its best. Can’t comment too much on story yet

Idk if it’s better than Bersia if you account for when that released and it’s technical limits compared to the PS5. But it’s definitely the best Tales game ever made if you don’t.

I reckon I’m 2/3 don’t know exactly though

I think this is why I like it so much. Setting aside Bersia, tales games have always felt the weakest of the genre and little more than time wasters in between giants like FF and others. I understand not everyone feels this way but I was never a big fan of their combat style until they started to shift it, probably why I hold Bersia in high regard. They departed even more here and I like it

The late game is brutal.

Not the plot or character stories but how they repeat the same points over and over and over and over.

Seems like hours could have been cut from the ending dialogue. I had to start speed reading to make the skits faster.

Other than that I really thought it was a great game.
