I am getting wrecked by King Allant right now in my first regular game (not NG+ or anything). I've lost probably 15 times to him and havent gotten close to finishing him off. I can maybe get about half of his life down at best before he catches me. I am leveled to mid 80s, so it shouldnt be an underpowered thing. I just suck on the sticks apparently.
I didnt think this game was overly difficult for being my first souls game until this point. Most of my deaths throughout were environmental related (usually falling) or getting caught by something stupid after forgetting to heal up. Maneaters was a bitch for me to pass, but I figured out it was a user error. Once I figured out my mistake, it only took me another 2 or 3 tries to finally defeat them. Got through Flamelurker on my first try. But damn Allant...

magic is so absurdly op
Didn’t want to start a new thread for this, so figured I’d ask. I keep seeing this sentiment but going the magic route has seemed to hinder me more than anything. I haven’t been able to wield just about anything but some super basic swords/shields. And magic (fire) really only seems OP against rank and file. Literally does nothing against bosses which is what I was hoping it’d be better for. But now being on the armor spider I’ve definitely felt like going knight or something would make these easier.

You literally can sit in the cave and nuke the spider to death with magic, with no fear of being hit.
And magic is very OP against other bosses as well. You may be making bad choices or have not unlocked good spells yet. The spider gives you a good one.

I’ve played Bloodborne but it’s been it’s been a minute. I’ve had to look up how to do almost everything in this game so far. First time I leveled anything up was at the blacksmith for the first time.
So it’s pretty clear I’m missing something leveling up my stats somehow.

If you are going Mage Caster it is pretty simple to level stats.
Just pump Magic and Intelligence. Vitality is your 3rd stat but is less important.
I would get Intelligence to 18 starting out for 3 spell slots then just pump Magic up as high as you want for damage. Don't go over 50.
50 magic
40 Intell
30 Vitality
Is a pretty standard mage build.

And yea, you won't be using any armor. You need to just be a roll and nuke.
Just get the kris blade to pair with your catalyst for damage.
Then use a buckler with a Crescent Weapon for melee and mana regain.
Buckler and catalyst on one hand and the two melee weapons on the other. Just quick swap as needed.

I actually have the Kris Blade but i “don’t have the stats to wield this weapon”
Got my intelligence up to 18 thanks for that. I don’t have a 3rd spell besides the fire blast and water shield yet.

You really need to put points into magic then
It only takes the magic stat to wield and it isn't too high of a number.
The weapon just boosts the damage from your casts. Only a bit at first but once upgraded it can get to 20% to 30% extra.

THE SPIDER GOES DOWN!
Avoiding them web is like 90% of the battle

Is this game as challenging as the other souls borne games? I'm assuming it is just curious. It looks fun, but not sure if my cup of tea.

If you've played any of the other Soulsborne games, you'll likely find it to be the easiest of the bunch (especially if you start with the Royalty class).

I might have to give it a try!

Just got to play the remake… I prefer the original immensely.
Friendly reminder: start with temple knight (halberd, good shield, heal miracle). Gotta take off the armor besides the helm.

I bought it when I got my PS5 at launch and loved it. Before Demon’s Souls, the only From Software game I ever played all the way through was Bloodborne (which I also loved). I’ll have to get around to trying the rest of them.

Really? Why is that?

I find the remake too bright and visually busy - takes away from the desolate atmosphere of the original. The NPCs and some of the enemies are silly looking.
Although I really wish the original had fractured mode for NG+

Too bright and visually blurry? I haven't noticed any of this. The Remake is better in every way to me.
