Not a big mmorpg player but I’ve played the big stuff like Skyrim since release.

So, I’ve been running through the Dungeon Crawler Carl series(hilarious litROG I can’t recommend enough) and it made me want to get into a new RPG. Something expansive, modern, and with plenty to do - ideally something modern. However, I want something with individual personalization on as close a level to this series. I’m talking picking a race, specialization, sub specialization, etc. I don’t have a specific setting in mind but I do like space games (also enjoy fantasy). I’m just looking for something to itch that scratch this book series gave me. I don’t mind solo player games but would like an MMORPG if possible.

I appreciate this is a SUPRR broad question but humor me- let me know what yall recommend.

Not modern at all, but Ultima Online is as customizable as you can get.

Baldurs Gate 3? Not a MMO and I haven’t played but I think it is multiplayer and others here could tell you if that for you

Kingdoms of Amular fits your request pretty well. the closest thing to an MMO that isn't actually online haha it's a lot like WoW

Is that on the Atlantic server or one of the private ones? I'm definitely intrigued by the ability to check out for weeks/months at a time and not have to play catch up.

Have you looked at Final Fantasy 14? I dodged it for years as I wasn't into the idea of an MMORPG and finally gave in over the summer and that was all I played for months. A bunch of classes to choose from, really fun and accessible gameplay, most can be done solo with a few needs to team up with other players but you can also always party up.

It's become one of my favorite FF titles of all time.

It's very much alive on private servers for both NGE and pre-NGE.

if mmo is not a hard requirement for you, this is by far my recommendation as well.
