I remember my brother buying Riven on PSX, 5 discs for each island. Such joy, especially if you just got to an island and realized you needed to go back to the previous one real quick.

Being Kings Quest fan here, Roger Wilco solid as well.

Played Myst, 7th Guest, Riven, Full Throttle, etc.

All of this.

Myst was great.

If this is just going to be a general "badass oldschool games" thread,

Monkey Island >>>>>> Mist

Leisure Suit Larry was legit as well.

As much as I loved Myst, I agree.

And for anyone here interested in those old Lucasarts adventure games, I found a forum thread a while back that has loads of high quality poster scans and fan recreations for download.

LINK

Many would look nice hanging up in a home theater room, especially the movie-style "Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis" poster.

I like the Monkey Island series, but they went above and beyond to make their puzzles super obscure. Stuff you would never think of in a million years. I remember a review I read where they gave one of them a 7.5/10, saying "factor in a strategy guide with the cost of the game, because you're going to need it".

The Monkey Island games were pretty tame in this regard, at least when it comes to 1 - 3. I never played the entries beyond that. Each game had a few puzzles that had you just trying to use every item in your inventory but most had some logic to them that was discernible without a guide.

Of course, the big plus of the Lucasarts adventure games was that you couldn't really die or screw yourself up too bad. To contrast, take a game like "Return to Zork" where you could accidentally throw away or miss an item at the very beginning of the game that isn't needed until the very end and there goes all of your progress. You can't beat the game now and have to start all over and you may not even realize what item you're missing.

I'm playing it on my iPad right now, and I can't remember how to get the ball rolling. It's driving me nuts!

That, quake, and doom 2 were my major reasons to upgrade to a CDROM drive in the 90s.

Myst was/is an amazing game. I was very young when it came out, but I remember spending countless hours in my school's computer lab trying to beat it.
