It is wonky, but it's sort of how the first one was (before being mayor was a thing. You weren't really a "mayor" or had any special abilities in that one). We found a nice groove.
From what I've heard this is really temporary up until KK coming to town, which is really the last "achievement unlocked event" everything after that is shareable.

Currently we have 3 people moving in and she can't help at all with her character cause Tom hasn't given her the recipes.

I really wish there was a way to know when someone's gate is open. It's a pain not knowing.

Tomorrow yes, you can pillage whatever you want tomorrow. Unfortunately I've already taken all of the fruit on my island today because I had a few miles+ achievements dealing with fruit
ETA: that being said, if all you want is a few of each to start your collection I think I have a few in storage. I'll hand those over (don't have apples yet, just planted those trees today)

Let's do it tomorrow - none of my trees bloomed last night... and today is just sucky in general on my island. Residential Services is closed, a few other things didn't bloom, no fish. It's super boring, and I don't have extras of the fruits right now to give you, so it would be sucky for you. Hopefully my Apples grow tonight.
