After episode 1, I was thinking this was going to be a great game.

Too many enemies everywhere. Do I fight? No, not enough ammo. Do I run? I can't run because Alan can only spring 5 feet and every enemy is faster than me. The game seems really proud of it's shitty dodge mechanic. I even got an achievement for it

Well that’s disappointing.

One of those games I could never get into after trying numerous times.

Something about it just bored the hell out of me back when I had for the 360.

One of the most overrated games of all time. It tries to be a Twin Peaks clone with the weird charm and silly story, but it just doesn't execute properly and the gameplay is shite.

Remedy has not made a good game other than Max Payne

I started a new playthrough of Control last night and I don't agree with this statement.

It looked amazing when it was announced back in 2005. I think it was supposed to be a XBOX 360 launch window game.
when it finally came out 5 years later I can remember being pretty disappointed. I still it interesting enough to play through but I have not interest in playing the re-master.

I'm playing through Control for the first time right now. Except for the absolute shite map I really like it. I kinda wish the combat was less hectic at times and more intimate I guess is the right word. Like more scary in your face creatures than dudes with guns and rocket launchers.
To Carson's point... I think Remedy shot for the stars and crashed landed on the moon with Alan Wake and Quantum Break. I may feel the same after I finish Control but so far I think its their best game.

My only real gripe with Control is it has a horrible checkpoint system.

I even love reading all the documents you find.

To Alan Wake, I played maybe 30 minutes of it somewhat recently. I hated everything about how it controlled.

That game was supposed to be entirely open world. It was a disappointment.

That too can be frustrating especially when you have to hike back to a boss battle.

I remember playing it when it first came out and liking it. I didn’t think it was amazing, but not trash. Probably a 7/7.5 type game.

Control's in-game map was atrocious. So fricking bad.

I will agree to that point as well. Figuring out where to go was a challenge at times.

Let me preface this by saying that I 100%'d Control and all of its DLC.

It was beautiful and a technical marvel, it had some really cool ideas and concepts, it controlled and performed very well...but the map was shite, the gameplay got really stale (just max upgrade Launch and lay waste to everything), there isn't much enemy or environmental variety (lots of redundant designs), the story went nowhere (and none of the big questions get answered), and the story/narrative were far too reliant on in-game lore items to give you plot details. I was reading every single one for the first few hours and then it got so ridiculous that I stopped. There are hundreds of them

Not sure if yall have finished, There is a section called the Ashtray Maze later in the game that is insanely cool and fun

I'm on the last episode. Resource allocation isn't as much of a problem, but I stand by the combat being tedious as frick and annoying. I think if the dodge wasn't so finicky and if Alan had a melee (even if it was just a push ability), it'd be improved tremendously. Dropping a flare does help keep the ninja zombies off you, but I get tired of being killed by crap I can't even see coming.

Some of the sequences just drag. Too much walking forward, enemies spawn, kill or run from enemies, walk forward again, oh no, a door is jammed. Fend off the enemies while the NPC unlocks the door. The combat is not the strength of this game, but Remedy keeps highlighting it as the focus.

The light mechanic makes no sense. Why do flashlights require new batteries every 8 seconds in this universe? Why do streetlights make all the enemies disappear, but similar light sources (spotlights, truck headlights, helicopter lights, etc) do not? Why don't the characters get the frick out of town at night and come back and do all the stuff during the daytime?
