I'm about 18 hours in and I have enjoyed this game so far. I much prefer playing with Naoe over Yasuke. Her combat is just more fun to me. Naoe's backstory is much more interesting as well. She is the typical AC character with the parkour and stealth. Yasuke feels like he doesn't fit, just my opinion based on the story so far. If given the choice, I never play Yasuke. He would have been better served as an ally.

I have not HAD to play stealth in any mission so far. I've played a good mix of stealth and just outright killing face up. The Eagle vision is a plus but I'm not a fan of how they show/mark the loot. For me, some of them are harder to find.

I have only found one bug that does not let me finish a castle. Not to spoil too much, but some loot is locked behind a door where you have to find a key. I got the key during a "mission" and didn't loot everything. When I went back, there was no key and the doors were still locked. I'll look this up on google when I think about it.

Overall this game is fun for me. I really want a quality of life mod that lets me fast travel from and to anywhere. That would make this game feel so much better.

It may just be the setting is what it is, but I Find the setting overall to be pretty repetitive

I feel like this is why the developers opted to implement seasons, because the different regions kind of blend together.

Origins kind of did too, considering that game was set in a giant desert, but the difference is that the major towns all looked incredibly varied.

I could not tell you the difference between Osaka (outside of the giant castle), Kyoto, or that other city near the start of the game that starts with an S that I can't remember.

Kyoto is supposed to be this big place that's half the size of AC Unity's Paris, but it almost doesn't feel like you're "in" a city. It's just a more spread out version of the small villages dotted throughout the map. It probably is accurate to the time period though.

I downloaded it this weekend, and I'm enjoying it. It seems to play very similar to Ghost of Tushima, but I'm sure there are only a few ways you can make an open world Samurai game.

The visuals are great, and the traversing seems really fluid. I'm only a few hours in but its been fun for me.

I want to know what happened to all the old AC writers. These games had interesting stories all the way up until Unity and then the stories started to go downhill.

I would go so far as to say that AC Shadows barely has a story to speak of for 95% of it's runtime.

I blame the non-linear narrative structure of the RPG-centric AC games for a good bit of it, but I'm not convinced Ubisoft could string together a decent narrative even if the main mission progression was more linear in nature.

I also miss set-piece main missions. You can have a giant open world with a tremendous amount of activities and POIs but have main missions that offer distinct gameplay experiences from just trapsing around the open world.

Nice response

I haven't been able to play until the past 2 nights and it just feels like it's getting better and better. I'm taking my time looting everything lol.

The customization ability is pretty freakin cool and it doesn't feel daunting to obtain weapons/items/trinkets

The enemies seem pretty fair, although sometimes parrying/dodging gets silly.

The castles are massive. So many chests but so many enemies. Killing those daimyo's can get tough some times. I'm about to play with Yasuke and report back

Im about 18 hours in and slow playing.
Im loving it! I know I'm still in the first area but it hasn't overwhelmed me with side quests yet and the armors (for the girl at least) are awesome.
The combat is clean. I got completely freaked out the first time I tried to slick assassin a ronin or samurai and they just caught my foot and messed me up.. haha.

The hideout is cool.. again, still early but drawing animals in nature and adding them is pretty fun.

AC was more of a nostalgia thing because the mechanics are extremely repetitive. Ubisoft just parades a corpse of a once well made franchise similarly how Blizzard does. Some people like simplicity and repetition but that's my cup of tea since the game isn't cheap unless you do the ubisoft+ thing and unsub after you're done.

I just expect more since there are many games that are being developed that actually have a strategy and it's not just one concept.

The formula wears off on me after about 15-20 hours. It’s why I never buy at retail price or just play through PSplus

I have always loved the worlds but once that loses its luster…I typically just abandon my gameplay because it’s just rinse and repeat with stories that are not good enough to make me want to finish.

I’ll catch shadows when it drops on a sub but only because I want to run around on the map for a bit. It’s beautiful . I know for a fact I’ll dip out after about 3 nights of playing.

Ngl, I was expecting a repetitive generic AC game with updated graphics, and this thread is definitely reinforcing that

Seems like they went the Valhalla route of meaningless and dull side quests, which is disappointing.

My policy of not paying full price for controversial games, has helped me immensely. Was going to wait until the inevitable Ubisoft 50% cut after a couple months, but this thread has tempered that. Probably going to wait until is ends up on Gamepass or PS+.

From now on when I hear "return to form" I am going to assume the worst

He is very easy to understand, really.

He doesn't like the game.

He HAS to LOVE the game because something something DEI, something neckbeards, something something Trump. Every retort he has to anyone not loving the game will have one of the above buzzwords.

That is how he sees the world. Which is why he is easy to dismiss, as he screeches and cries.

I haven't ever said I don't like the game, nor have I said I won't play it. . .but he will still screech something about me hating the game because DEI, or some lefty catchphrase.

It is a joy to laugh at, though.
