Most people are drowning it in creamer sugar and whipped cream. They’re not drinking coffee they’re drinking a damn sugar milk.
Very true and that’s why people think Starbucks is good “coffee”. If the majority of people liked their coffee black then I bet Starbucks would change their roasting process

River road and CDM are pretty bad.
My favorites are French Market Vieux Carre (teal bag), Patria Nicaragua Dark Roast, Gevalia

Starbucks is definitely more roasted. You know why? Because the millions upon millions of dollars they have spent on customer taste tests tells them that is what most customers want. That's why they are the largest coffee company in the world.
Starbucks is the most popular coffee company in the world because of the tremendous marketing efforts of Howard Schultz, not simply because of the taste of their coffee.
Coffee is a widely available, cheap commodity that until the 70's (probably moreso the 80's) was something that was made at home, or served in diners, gas stations, donut shops, etc. The concept of coffee shops weren't big in the US. In Europe, particularly places like Italy, they were popularly in the form of cafes (Espresso). Schultz aimed to bring that concept to Seattle. It proved successful, then the company started to expand rapidly. In the process the company created more a "brand" than a highly sought after unique coffee taste that preferable to every other coffee on the market. It was really more of an American espresso cafe.
Today Starbucks is every bit of a "designer brand" than simple coffee shop. That's why it is the top coffee company in the world. It's not the regular old cup of coffee they have perfected through millions of dollars of market research on taste tests. In fact, a regular cup of black coffee is not even the most popular item at the store. Most consumers order mixed-coffee drinks with cream, milk, sugar, flavors, etc. with coffee simply serving as the base. Many people who work at Starbucks will tell you their plain, run of the mill coffee on its own isn't great. But that really doesn't matter because most people are ordering the coffee as a mix anyway.

I like Starbucks and Community the least. Right now I like French Truck. I have a few bags of Big Chief left, but I also like FT's Ethiopia Kayon Mountain and Colombia Popayan Reserve.

Community Coffee at gas stations. I refuse to drink that shite. My preference is Dunkin, but that's just me.
...In terms of my home coffee, I drink Folgers Half Caf and make it strong as hell. I like really strong coffee, but I don't like the jitters. Half Caf solves that problem.

Starbucks beans are some of the worst coffee I've ever had at home. Harsh and burnt/ashy tasting.
We usually buy our beans from Costco and both the San Francisco Bay and Kirkland brands are barely above Starbucks.
Community is above those imo.
The best coffee from Costco is Mount Comfort (if they have it in stock) or Ruta Maya.

Since I quit smoking I dont enjoy drinking coffee like I did. Those two really went well together getting me started in the morning.
Maxwell house is the coffee I didn't care for and I always thought Starbucks was overrated.

I have a fondness for Folgers as my mom made that every day growing up. I still enjoy a cup now and then.
You grow up in Louisiana? I’ve never known of a household in the state where people drank that every day.

But she LOVES Cafe Bustelo. It is the most horrid rancid coffee I've ever tasted. She drinks it at least once a week. It could be a purgative for all I know.
Does she use a moka pot? That’s the only thing I think it’s good for. It’s usually what I will use for that.
