My wife said she thought the milk didn’t feel as cold as usual, so she used our infrared thermometer to check the surface temp of some food items in the fridge. Most were 41-42 degrees. Stuff in the back were below 40, but only around 38.

The setting is on “6,” which is almost the coldest it goes. It’s an old, cheap white fridge that needs to be replaced eventually. But our turkey’s in there, soooo....

I mean 40 degrees is generally the cutoff of “corporate arse covering don’t-sue-us” food safety, but how long has the fridge been acting up? If I had a turkey in the fridge for 2 days at 34 degrees and it sat in the fridge for 6 hours at 42 degrees I wouldn’t be worried because the internal temp is probably still sitting at sub-40 and the bacteria that’s grown on the surface is negligible and will be burned off as it’s cooked.

That being said, I’m extremely liberal on food safety and ain’t skeered to eat meat that’s been sitting in the danger zone for hours as long as it’s cooked. I never get sick or get food poisoning, ever. I know some people are more sensitive than others too so I guess it’s your judgement call, I wouldn’t throw a turkey out because it’s got an external temp of 41 degrees though unless it smells bad.

That being said, I think the smell test is way more accurate than temp anyway. If something smells remotely off, it’s in the trash can no questions asked

Anything between 40-140 for more than 4 hours starts bacteria growth.

All you will get is the squirts.

I'm with poster above, smell test.

Last time that happened to mine it was about 50 degrees by the time I opened it in the am. I just shut the door and nobody died.

Your defrost timer is probably going bad, causing your coils to ice over a little. Cheap part and easy to replace.

Why do we have to point out it’s a “white” fridge? Do they now work as hard??

Another example of why I wonder how many people on this site can dress themselves and wipe their asses without help.
