They cook it vertically and not served on a stick in Lafayette. Doesn't help you I guess though

Aha,forget it guys. Its not the same. I have family members that live in Tampa that graduated from LSU and they can't find it in Tampa, which is a big city. Just prepared very different. Which is why I asked if anybody knew the history of Albasha, Serops, etc.

Baton Rouge has some legit Greek/Lebanese restaurants. I miss that a lot about the area.....Albasha in particular.

Had trouble finding it in Memphis when we lived there or in Pittsburgh. They were actually few and far between when I was in Houston about 10 years ago as well.

Baton Rouge, for some reason, has a lot of really good restaurants of that type and style.

Just back from Qatar, they have lots of restaurants there that serve it.

Do you ever visit Qatar by chance?

Go to Jasmine Grill

Eta: served how you want it

Eta2: I'm sure there are many more. That was just the first menu I looked at using the google machine, so I'm sure there's many more

actually, I have been away from LSU for about 15 years now and have never found any that was anywhere near as good as that served in the BR area. I actually spent an hour or so looking for some here in my area and couldn't find anyone that had anything close.

I would be interested in the history myself. I've always heard that the Baton Rouge restaurants all have ties to a series of broken marriages and infidelity beginning with the owner of the first restaurant in the area.

I will try Jasmine Grill, appreciate you taking the time to look. But guaranteed it will not come with...white rice, Greek salad, warm pita bread and hummus. Albasha was/is the real deal!

Spankum...As twisted as this sounds, every city I go to, I look. Have never found anything close. Aside from the crawfish, etoufee, Abita beer on draft, etc...the Greek/Lebanese restaurants is what I miss most about BR.

It probably won't be as good, but the same style of schwarma exists many places.
