Why is it hard to find Cajun/ Creole specialties in BR?

I wanted to find dishes like alligator or rabbit sauce picquante. Pork bone stew, oyster bienville dressing, shrimp creole, okra stew.
I want to pair IPA with this for game.

Because the majority of Baton Rouge is comprised of folks who THINK they like Cajun cooking but in reality would never touch a sauce picquante. Gotta go south of Sorrento for the good stuff.

I agree....why someone doesn't open a good creole/Cajun country style restaurant in south baton rouge is beyond me...with a daily roating seasonal menu...
Also a good Mexican restaurant from Houston would do well here....
But our elected officials here are content with keeping baton rouge boring...just look at the restaurant scene downtown...

I think I've seen sauce piquant and similar dishes as daily specials at the Berthelot's Crawfish store on Perkins.

BR (metro) people cook at home and don't focus on dining out. Especially when it comes to home cooking like sauce piquante, jambalaya, or even gumbo.

That’s not restaurant cuisine even in the places you do find it. That’s usually made at a grocery store’s plate lunch counter. Baton Rouge, for whatever reason, doesn’t have many plate lunch grocery stores.

You can get a great chicken stew one day a week at the Jambalaya Shoppe.

Why? Because it doesn’t make money here. You can point to the money making restaurants and plate lunch joints in Lafayette all you want, it doesn’t work in Baton Rouge. If it did, they would be here. Cultures are different, it’s that simple. People in BR didn’t grow up eating okra stew or pork bone stew for plate lunches.

Bergeron’s on Jefferson has some great plate lunches. They occasionally get a little Cajun with them but then the next day it’s fajitas and spaghetti. Either way, I’ve eaten there a lot and never had a bad meal

When I go out to eat, it's usually to eat food I can't/don't cook at home.

I can make all of that stuff at home with ease so going somewhere else to eat it just doesn't appeal.

You might find some things that appeal to you at Hebert's Specialty Meats. They have lots of prepared foods.
