French fries are what gets me. They always take 10 minutes longer than it says.

Some frozen pizzas don't even try anymore. 12-25 minutes depending on blah blah. Yeah they're right, but it's just not helpful. Should just say check every 2 minutes after 10 and write down what it was for next time.

You must like some limp noodles. I have cooked pasta with a timer since I was in the single digits, several stove types, several types and it always works out right.

This one used to get me too, but I always had electric stoves, when I finally moved into a house with a gas stove, the pizza times on the box worked fine ever since.

Never had an issue. We eat pasta al dente, so I cook it 1 or 2 min less than stated. Gas stove, though. Lots of salt in the water and no oil. (Not sure that matters.)

I’ve never cooked pasta for 20 minutes. I think you’re doing it wrong.

Frozen pizzas for our gas stove we always bump it up 10 degrees and at least another 10 minutes, if not it’s to doughy.

I thought you were going to say the instructions lie because their suggested time is too long (which it is, in my experience). Twenty minutes? Do you mean from time you put the water on to boil plus cooking the pasta?

Are you cooking a solid block of pasta? Only other explanation is that you're boiling water over a candle.

I don't think you know what al dente actually means....

quote:

Al dente pasta simply means to cook pasta slightly under done. Translated from Italian, al dente means “to the tooth”. This means that pasta offers a slight resistance when bitten into.

This is probably when you try to cook a 5lb bag of frozen fries in a gallon of oil

I'm sure there numbers are based on the oil staying at frying temp, which is pretty hard when you put blocks of ice in them

Don't worry, I do the same thing

I have never seen the box be wrong. Over cooked pasta sucks.
