oh, you're serious? Turtle, as it is applied to the original dessert, was used because they resemble turtles, NOT because they contain turtle meat.

It's an established industry term for desserts containing nuts, chocolate, and caramel. Not turtle meat.

No one orders a turtle DESSERT expecting it to contain turtle meat. That's just absurd.

You said it yourself "desserts... that carry the name Turtle that obviously don't have turtle meat." If it's obvious then it's not deceitful.

The expectation for turtle cheesecake to contain turtle is non-existent, however, the expectation for turtle soup to contain turtle is extremely high.

I will refrain from insulting your intelligence for even considering this a valid argument.

This is definitely a grey area however, it's not like there are agents driving around, DNA testing every dish at every food service establishment in every city, USA.

They only investigate complaints, the most common of which that I can think of are, pork for veal, fish/ skate for scallops, swai for grouper/ domestic catfish.

C.O.O.L. or County Of Origin Labeling is another protection afforded to U.S. consumers to identify where their produce, meat, and fish originate from.

The Truth-in-Menu laws are there to protect consumers from otherwise unscrupulous business practices.
