Yeah, I don’t know why I kept putting it off, but definitely sorry I did

ETA: how does the Sherry finish compare?

DO is a different animal from any other bottle including a finished bottle.

This.. It is almost like 1920 is to most OF products, once you try it the rest become a waste of time and money.

Meh. I much prefer OF 1897 of the prohibition line, and 1910 comes in second for me

Yea, I don't get the 1920 hype. It's good, but not my favorite of the non-allocated OF stuff.

I feel like it used to be better, or maybe my palate has changed over the years

I think the sagamore DO is the best value, but I'm not ready to call it better than the sherry finish. I'll have to do a little head to head blind soon.

I do like it better than the 8 year and barrel selects I've had (although they're all good).

Starlight DO bourbon is another one to check out if you haven't done so already.

Regarding OF, I actually prefer the 1910, which is unusual because I tend to gravitate to higher proofs.

I was asking because they are only $10 difference here, if the Sherry is at least as good as the DO, I may pick up the Sherry first because I know it's a limited run.

Thanks for the input baw. I think I've only had 2 Sherry finished whiskeys. One was a Belle Meade, which I'm not really a fan of, and the other was the new Jack Daniels Heritage Single Malt finished in Sherry casks, which I thought was awesome.

I'll give it a shot

While I don't necessarily dislike it, I have always found it drank hotter than it should. Yeah it's a high proof, but I find other high proofers show more flavor and less ethanol. Granted that's my palate, but it's been offputting to me.

1897 is the best OF in my opinion. It gets overlooked by the proof hounds, but proof isn't the definition of best flavor. That 1897 is the best balance of them all.

It's not IMO. The sherry finish is way too hot. I added water to a pour and it was much better, the flavors were more apparent.

A neck pour? How many pours have you had? I didn't find it particularly hot. The worst case is you've got a great base for a Manhattan, but I've been enjoying it neat as well.
