FPD the whiskey gods were smiling down on me when I stumbled upon this bottle. It's tough to find around here and I killed my other bottle just last week. 2 days later found this....amen

Yes. I have now seen it 3 times at Hokus Pokus. I just bought another bottle Wednesday. When they get it, it it usually about 5 bottles that last maybe 2 days

Have not seen it at any of the three I visit. I'll be at the Johnny Downs and Menard ones today and Tioga Sunday, so if I see it, I'll post.

I have a question. I am not a huge straight whiskey drinker. If so, it may be a double of Blanton's with a large ice cube. I personally, have bought one bottle of whiskey in my life of greater than $100. I don't have the palate to differentiate the taste.

Tonight, a friend of mine bought me a Willett bottle - about $500. We both sat and had a drink and I just hated it. I added a couple ice cubes, but I could not in good faith add anymore because I cannot concept drinking a beverage that valuable and mixing it....but, I hated it.

What is the proper thing to do?

Send it to me and I will dispose of it safely. Unless it's the genie looking bottle. That one is no good and my hazmat suit ain't rated for that

Willett is not for someone just getting into bourbon; it has a specific profile that not everyone likes.

So, you are not wrong.

This was their Family Estate bottle. Single barrel 102/148. Whatever that means. Had a string spice taste to it. And the highest proof I’ve ever seen.

That's high proof stuff so if you aren't a big bourbon drinker, it will gouge your palate out.

Seriously. You should just give it to me.

Really, the main reason why you didn’t like it is probably because it was ~40 proof points higher than you are used to drinking. Willett Family Estate is not for beginners. If you want to get into whiskey, then just put it in a cabinet and come back to it in about a year. If you don’t plan on getting into whiskey, just do like I originally said and give it to me.

I would recommend decanting it to a very clean pitcher then using a funnel put it back in the bottle. This is gonna add some air that should help,it,open up and not seem as violent. Also go buy some, thing like OF 1920 or Rare Breed and get used to that 115-120 proof range. Then after a few months go back to,the Willet for another attempt. It’s too nice of a bottle to give up on.
