Green Spot neat

If you like Green try the Red. Instantly took me back to when I had it in Ireland. If I hadn't bought a $100 Bottle of Writers Tears Marsala tonight I would have purchased it. Had it at the bar with some apps tonight. Couple drops of water really opens up the flavors. Had the Blue after the Red. Definitely a step down.

JD can't be beat for quality, price, and availability. The bonded series is great, and the bourbon and rye sib bp can both be found for under 70 on a somewhat consistent basis. If you have to go secondary, it's still reasonable around 100.

The special releases, on average, are less expensive on secondary than many retail releases from other distilleries. For example, the twice barreled rye goes for around 170 on secondary. Compare that to 200 retail for old Carter and four gate or 300 for angels envy, willett wheated etc. The only one that is priced at a premium is coy hill. And that's still less than the taters are paying for the forty dollar old rip van winkle.

This is a long way of saying excellent recommendation for the JD sib bp rye and Bardstown origin (a separate post).

Good evening gentlemen. Between the weather and holidays, this is the ideal time to sip some good whiskey.

WU2 is next. It's my favorite rye in the cabinet. "Mint tea" held that distinction until a sample swap with epic.

Blue spot is great, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around how it nearly tripled in retail, seemingly overnight. It's sitting at 300 now. After looking for a year, I gave in to secondary last year for 150. Doubling that is insane.

It wasn't the only casualty for Irish. Rb27 is now a grand at retail and the 21 doubled in price too. Ridiculous.

Next for me is WU4.

That’s wild. It’s a decent pour around $100.
