I'm sipping on a Makers on the rocks. And it is so good.

Just a thought, but perhaps a scotch list should be under 100 and bourbon/rye under 60/70.
Is anyone else serious about scotch....seems more of a bourbon board?
Under those guidelines, I will do a scotch under a 100 to try out:
1. Balvenie 12 (just well balanced)
2. Lagavulin 16 (my favorite...awesome grass and dirt taste)
3. Glenfiddich 15
4. Oban 14 (a nice transitional scotch)
5. Michael Crouvieur (curveball here...distilled in Scotland and aged in Burgundy barrels. This is the best whiskey most haven't tried.

If I am drinking something and comparing it to grass and dirt I think I would just quit.

Haha I was thinking the same thing. I actually wanted to try the Lagavulin 16, but now that someone just compared it to grass and dirt I'm not so sure. Sounds right up ole Les' alley haha

My brothers initial description "it tastes like water from where the lochness monster lives and firewood." But now he loves the shite.

Ledaig is just a little too light for me. I want to like it more.

I have drank some fine bourbon in my day. Everybody's taste buds are different but I never pick up hints of dirt. Maybe peat.
Why don't you fill me in on your bourbon education.

Drank makers and Jack for a long time on the rocks (graduated from college bourbon and water or bourbon and coke)...in '06 I was an intern at a good law firm...I wrote a MSJ and it won on its merits...the Partner called me in, closed the door and pulled out a bottle. The first sip was very harsh (I was young and had never had whiskey neat)...the second was much better...the third sip opened my eyes. I had never had anything like it. It was Pappy 20...I went to Dorignacs and bought a bottle that night (even though I was appalled with how much it was at the time...I think it was like 60 or 70). Tried many from there and loved the stuff ever since...now I have about 8 or 9 grand worth sitting in my house and I try to attend a lot of tastings and read a lot to keep up.
Honestly, the average good bourbon is cheap...the average good scotch ranges 20-40 more.

I should say...educated on bourbon does not equate to whiskey overall...the best is still distilled in Scotland. ..it is creeping up though like California is creeping up on France...but, not there yet

That MSJ was unopposed wasn't it?
Posted on 5/21/15 at 11:14 pm to 3HourTour
Opposed! Lol...I wrote the whole damn thing with one edit. I earned that Pappy haha
Now...I try not to practice if I can help it
